Default Need Advice for a YOUNG A6 2.7T Buyer

Yeah, I was wondering if anyone out there could tell me the BEST dealer to buy an A6. I seem to draw extreme flak when looking at pricey cars like the A6. I am 22, and have 15000 (educated, with GREAT job also) to put down up front, but seems like before I can even LOOK at the car, I’m filling out credit reports and contracts on the purchase of the car. I want to be treated seriously, without receiving lack of respect when looking. After shopping around, I feel like sometimes I'd rather driver my 92 POS!!! And I could also use some advice on purchasing the car at invoice, IS THIS POSSIBLE???
Come on people don’t let me down, let me know there is a NO-PRESSURE Audi dealer with a great attitude!!!

It would help if you could let us know what part of the country(i.e. which state) you are from.

Default Where you at? In SoCal there are a few

places that will help you get into an A6 with no pressure at all.

I bought mine at Clair and I think they've learned not to pre-judge based on age. They were very helpful and didn't pressure me into anything. If you're in the Boston area, I can give you the name of my sales person. I was 19 when I bought my A4 and I ran into all of the same things that you're seeing now. When I went to buy my 2.7T (at 22), they were much better. Good luck finding an understanding dealer.

Default If you have been reading this board (more)...

...you know that we deeply disapprove of anyone your age spending $45K dollars in a car. You are too young, you should be putting your money in long term growth investments, think about buying a house, a plot in the cementary, etc. You could loose your job anytime. Anyway, you are probably an obnoxious brat with too much money and no brain, a profile that fits the BMW 328 buyer. Go away.

Just kidding. If you are in So.Cal. or anywhere near I would suggest you talk to April in Commonwealth Audi. About buying a 2001 2.7T at invoice, now, I don't think it would be possible. Maybe later in the year, maybe a car that's already at the dealer, maybe if the market continues to go to the dogs. Right now these cars sell well and dealers don't seem to have any problem charging $2000 over invoice.

I payed $2200 over for a 2000 2.7T with precisely the options I wanted. I suppose it is possible to better that deal but my advice is not to be too greedy. If you can spend $44K you can spend $45K; the dealer must make a profit too. Best luck.

I had a similar experience buying my first new car when I got out of college. I went back to the dealer a while later and bought it from a different salesman who was really great to work with. It was satisfying when the guy who wouldn't let me test-drive the car initially recognized me when I picked up the car

If there are other dealers nearby, try them. Otherwise maybe you can ask to see a salesman who is interested in making a sale.<p>

I’m from the Midwest Area.. Kansas City to be exact!(I'm WILLING TO travel if it means NO HASSLE) I have been to the local dealer, but from square on it was why don’t you come to my desk and SIGN. Hey I'm extremely interested in the car, but I feel that I don’t need to sign just to look at it.

Default Good point...

All sales people are not created equally... if you find a sales guy that isn't taking you seriously, you may still find another sales person at the same dealer that will. Good Luck

Shouldn't this be titled "Stop me if you've heard this one"?

Default My advice...

I've seen a similar situation. I have a friend just graduating from college and he was looking at cars two weekends ago (Since he doesn't have a car, I was nice enough to drive him). We visited a VW dealer and when he told the dealer he was interested in a Passat, the dealer started questioning him about his financial situation. When my friend said he wanted a GLX, the dealer was very surprised and after an extremely short test drive, told him he'd be willing to help him find a car but he should get a 'letter of intent' for his job first.

One thing you can try to do pricing is to look at The Motley Fool's website. They have a section on buying a car which worked decently for me (http://www.fool.com/). I mostly followed their instructions, came back to my original dealer with the result, let him make an offer based on it, and closed happy (and then proceeded to change my order to a 2001 but I digress. ). I think the total negotation time with him was, maybe 10 min. and I paid a couple hundred more than if I'd gone with the lowest price but I think I was fair.

As for getting a dealer you can work with, your best bet is probably to be outspoken. If you don't like the way the dealer is acting towards you, speak to another (either leave and come back or, if you're really good (i'm not ), ask right on the spot). There's nothing that says you have to stay with the dealer who happened to see you first in the showroom.

One last thing, I doubt you'll get a car at invoice. For one thing, Audi doesn't have holdbacks (to anyone's knowledge), for another the A6 is selling very well (better than the A4 according to their #s, right?) so there probably isn't a lot of pressure to move the vehicles. You might be able to pick a 2000 up for close to invoice though. Most people are getting $1-2K over. I'm getting $1500 on a 2001 and think that's a fair and good deal.
