Default Heated Steering Wheel

Does anyone know why Audi no longer offers a heated steering wheel?

I read somewhere this would be offered on the A6 2001 (can't remember where) but judging from the posts I've seen regarding the 2001 changes, I believe the info was incorrect (might have meant heated seats).

Anyway, what's the deal with no heated wheel?

Default Half my question answered...

Okay, guess I should have done a Forum Search before my original post. Apparently, the heated steering wheel was discontinued due to reliability...melting...FIRES!!!

Anyway, still curious as to whether anyone has heard any mention of it for MY2001.

Thanks.

Default How to check...

I do have the heated steering wheel and I love it. It worked in the morning as I went to school when it was cold, and it brought the temperature up to a comfortable heat. You could tell it was on. But to see if you will have it or not. Pop the fuse panel and check for fuse 27. If there is nothing there than you shouldn't have it. If there is then you might have. The only way to check is to ask the dealer and I did both. Hope this helped you.

Actually, since yours is a MY2000, check your "Sticker". You should retain this at all costs, since it will come in handy when you trade your car in, and when you want to know what is included in your car. I would never buy a used car without its Sticker (unless it were 20 years old and had been lost). I still have all of my stickers, for all of my cars, even the 1983..

However, you will have the heated steering wheel only if you have the Cold Weather Package; it is part of the Pakage for certain years. But it was also dropped during some years. So, yes, have your service department check your serial number or call Audi North America at 1.800.822.2834..........Andras

The best way to check, short of turning it on and seeing if it heats the wheel, is to look on your Sticker, or call in your VIN and see what they say. However, I believe that the ambient temperature must be cold enough to have the thermal switch work too. This would make sense, since otherwise it could stay on and "overheat", thus causing a malfunction in the circuits.

Try calling your dealer; they should know from checking the VIN......Andras

Default This a mistake?

My understanding is that the A6 doesn't have the heated steering wheel for 2000s. Is that just something Audi claims but isn't the case? I'd love to have a heated steering wheel given that I live in MA.

Speaking of which, what do *you* need a heated steering wheel for, being that you're in San Antonio! Give me that!

Here's hoping my 2001 will have a heated wheel.

RTS:

Yes, but neither will come on if the temperature is above a certain ambient. So this time of the year is not the time to check it.

Why is everyone ignoring the best way of all - which is to check the Sticker or the VIN? Is anyone out there listening?..........Andras

Default My manual seems to say this is an *option* with the cold package...

...and my cold package doesn't seem to have it It would be pretty useful here in CO sometimes.

(FWIW, my sticker shows cold package but says nothing about heated wheel if I recall correctly.)<p>Richard
