Default Getting mine!

My A6 4.2 (Ming Blue/ Melange) should be ready tonight for pickup. It wasn't as hard to get with the sports suspension package as I thought. I went Saturday. They had one but without all the options I wanted. This one's loaded with the exception of a cell phone and navigation system. At 33 hopefully I won't be the youngest guy around with this car - but who cares!
BTW - Neigherbon Auto Center in Oakland, CA still has a green one with sports suspension package, but no heated seats. They didn't try to gouge me either. Price was well below cars"direct".com or any AAA deals.
Here goes the controversial statement - I like the look and feel/fit/finish of this car MUCH more than a BMW 540, though the 540 seems to drive more like a sports car (in dry weather!).

OK so I'm rambling, but I CAN'T WAIT!

Tim

PS: Anyone have aftermarket wheel experiece on the A6. The sport package wheels are nice, but I might want to stuff the wells a bit more - 18" wheels? I'll probably just leave it though. Why mess with a good thing. Sorry, still rambling...

It has the Melange interior as well. I was tempted. Apparently it's the only one around.

Default Congratulations. About the wheels...

... my feeling is the car needs lower profile tires. I went for 235/45/17 mounted on 17x8 wheels. They look and perform great. Others have opted for 235/40/18 tires, which may look and perform even better. Such tires, though, may not provide much rim protection in an 18x8.5 wheel; an 18x8 would be better but it is not easy to find.

Now, none of these changes will "fill the wells" any more than the original wheels, except width-wise. The overall diameter of the tire is not changed.

Default I thought that the 4.2 sport wheels/tires were

like 255/40-17 or something like that. They are wide. Why change?? I may be wrong, but thought I saw it in A6 brochure and in edmunds road test

Ooops! Of course, the 4.2 sport package already comes with 255/40/17s.

Default He does have 255/40-17's if he got Sport Package......

SNWL: I would think twice about the 18" 235s for a while. You have a lot of tire with the 255/40-17s. The 18" wheel/tires will be quite a bit stiffer. There is so little side wall in that size that they may have a negative effect on real road handling. The difference in ride comfort from a 16" to 17" configutation is much less pronounced than going from a 17" to 18" configuration. The handling gains will be much less also than if you were stepping up from 16" to 17".

But if you do change, I or JP4 might be interested in your sport package wheels. We have the 8 spoke 17" (same size) wheels and both have been waiting a long time for Audi to fill our orders for your wheels!

Congrats and I am sure you will love your car!

Default For the record...I have the 16x8 16" 6 spoke standard 4.2 wheel.

Stu B's correct though IMHO. You might want to reconsider going to an 18" wheel on the 4.2 and stick with a 17". You may regret the lose in right quality.
If you don't want the 5 spoker's they shouldn't be too hard to sell. I'm kind of locked into my deal though Stu B so go for it if he/she doesn't want them.
