Default Dealer issues

I'm in the process of making the '00 or '01 decision on the 2.7T. After reading the posts on this board, it seems like $1500-$1800 over invoice is common for '00 (probably a little lower since the '01 are almost on the water) and '01 can be had for $2000-2200 over invoice. Am I completely off on those numbers?

I spoke to my local dealer last night and he was giving me the run-around with pricing. I think he expects me to pay sticker (ha!), and when I informed him of the pricing intelligence that I picked up from this board, he said "That what most people are TELLING you, but they probably paid a lot more". In other words, I probably need a new dealer.

Suggestions in either Austin, San Antonio, or Houston are welcome.
Soon to be

I ordered a 01 last week in the New York area. The first dealer I went to said he could sell it for sticker and not one dime less. This dealer was in a very rich area and probably could sell them for sticker. I then went to another dealer about 15 miles away. They laughed when I told them someone else wouldn't budge from sticker. After some very painless negotiations I was able to get my 01 order for about 2400 over invoice (I swear) which from what I've heard is good but not fantastic. I would have gotten a 00 for 1500 over but try finding a 00 2.7 with exactly what you want in the Northeast, not likely to happen.
RBK

If you want to include Dallas in your "search" area, I would be most happy to introduce you to the great people at Central VW/Audi, on North Central Expsy, in Richardson. They got a whole mess of cars on the same shipment that mine came on. This was the 28th of April. Mine was the only PSK w/6sp. There were several 4.2's. And a few 2.7's. I would be happy to help if you tell me what you want at " jackorr@prodigy.net." I think McGill in Houston has a good press, too.

I have my '01 2.7T on order for the week22 production (~May 22). I was able to get $1500 with no haggling, I was very pleased because my saleman went through hoops to get my order in time for the May build. I am in the Pittsburgh area though.

I went to Don McGill. I was pretty impressed by the selection and professional attitude of the sales staff, but I'm still not willing to pay sticker for the car.

He's supposed to get back to me tonight about firm pricing, though. I could always go to Momentum (who would probably salivate at the thought of taking the sale away from Don McGill)

Are you the guy that runs www.audizone.com? I can't wait to join the ranks.
Soon to be

No, I don't run audizone, I'm just a regular joe. I went to Don Mcgill too. Ask for Tony Holmes when you go there next time. He sold me my car and another to my compliance manager. Really nice and laid back. Also very honest, won't jerk you around. Tell him David Vo mentioned his name. I regret that I might have to start taking my 00 2.7t to Momentum cause I just bot a house about 5 minutes away from them.

Negotiate the price with him first, then let him look for it. I think I paid about 2500-2700 over invoice but about 1500 under sticker and I got it within 3 days. I traded my car in and for three days they gave me an a6 loaner.

Also, I'm so glad I'm moving into this new part of town. Seeing alot of A6's and loving it. You don't see too many in the Sugar Land area.

Good Luck

Dave

David -

I, too, live in the area (just south of Rice Village). As soon as I pick my car up (or begin the interminable wait for the 01), I'll drop you a line. Perhaps I'll catch up with you at some Houston-centric Audi meeting.

Cheers
Soon to be

Default Realize pricing varies considerably depending on area

I live in MA and was able to get $1500 over for an 01 2.7T. Nancy1 around $1750 or so I think she said, and Beelzebub here says he got $1500 as well.

It seems, surprisingly to me, that New England area dealers tend to be cheaper than others. This surprises me since I'd expect the demand for an AWD vehicle to be higher in such parts of the country.

OTOH, maybe it's because we have more dealers than 2 in a 100 mi. radius. I have one dealer 5 mi. from my house and another 3 mi. from my office.

Default There's no such thing as a "price"

The price you end up paying results from either your skill at negotiating or market factors at the time you're dickering. This is why dealers love the current system so much - it's like flying. Every person on the plane paid a different price for their seat; same with cars.

Experience has taught me that if you tell a dealer "But everyone else is getting it for X over invoice" he will promptly retort "Then go buy it where everyone else got that price, because it doesn't exist and this is my price." Now you are on the spot, because you don't really have any proof that others are paying a certain amount, and the dealer would never admit it even if it was true. Such a great system!
