6 disc install
I have copied install instructions from steve bollinger. Do to the fact I am mechanically inept I was wondering if someone in the Anaheim Hills/Yorba Linda area has ever installed one on a 2000 A6. Or I shall give it the Ol college try and do it myself!! Which means doing it 3 or 4 times cause I keep forgetting something! LOL. I was gonna get the unit from Clair.com. It runs 270 plus 13 for shipping and 2 for screws package. Dealers want 450 and up for an installed unit. The Parts person (dealers)said that it was easy to install.

6 disc install (Trunk or Cabin)
Funny, I just spoke to a Sales Rep here (Arlington, Va) about the 6 disc changer. My question was whether it is located in the trunk or in the cabin, i.e., console between the seats. A buddy just bought a '96 Lincoln that had a six disc changer in the console between the seats; I would prefer this setup over the trunk. Any thoughts from the Board or Audi on this?

It's not the easiest thing to do, due to the tight confines in the rear fender well. If you're patient, however, you probably wouldn't have much trouble. Just be methodical and careful.
I'm pretty handy mechanically and did mine in about 30 minutes (being slow and methodical). The CD changer works fine and is a terrific addition to the car.

I agree with Rick Foster. I installed mine last weekend in about 45 minutes. It was a piece of cake if you take your time and follow the instructions. Got my changer from Clair and saved a bundle.

I agree with others that Clairs is the place to buy, and the FAQ instructions are very straightforward to follow. Two things I found: First, the instructions call for a 7mm socket...mine has 8mm heads. Second, if you have the Nav system, you virtually HAVE to remove the bracket - unless you have a few extra wrist joints. The instructions suggest it anyway, but with the Nav its a must. Total time for me to install was 40minutes...and 15 of those were spent retrieving a @#$%^& nut I dropped down the rear quarter panel!
