Default Keeping Alloys Clean

I just got wind of an idea from a source of mine that swears by a method that seems almost opposite of what your trying to accomplish when trying to keep alloys clean and free of brake dust. They say to wipe a very thin film of petroleum jelly (Vaseline will do nicely) over the entire polished surface of the wheel. Then wipe it all off with a clean towel so as to leave a microscopically thin film to act as a deterrant to brake dust and debris. Now I have taken tips from this individual in the past but since I'm "babying" my new 2.7T-Q, I'm kind of hesitant to accept this bit of info. They claim it works because they use it on their BBS rims that are linked to their 911 which has won many an award for showmanship. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

My son tells me that Coke is a great wheel cleaner. I plan to try it next wash. Stands to reason since that stuff will disolve nails, teeth or most anything else given enough time.

Too bad all the really effective spray on rinse off wheel cleaners have been taken off the market.

It's worth a try... Vaseline can't be nearly as bad as the road grime, tar, rock chips, and loose asphalt your car encounters driving along the highway... Not to mention rock salt sprayed on the roads in the winter time... Yuck..!

Coke is not even close to being effective.

I have come up with my own mix that works pretty well. (Still requires a wipe-over)

Oil Eater brand cleaning solution mixed with a little liquid car wash soap for body cuts through
brake dust on contact.

Costco sells Oil eater, or you can call the company for retail outlets.

Default This is done to protect the surface of your alloy from pitting caused by...

foreign debris like brake dust. Left uncleaned for lengthy periods the chemistry of the brake dust can cause small pits to form in the finish of the alloy. Although small at first, as more dust gets caught inside the little holes the finish really suffers.

Eagle1 works great! (its the foaming kind)
It even takes the brake dust from inside the wheel....
And I tried a lot of cleaners in my live!
