Negotiations......
In any successful negotiations, both parties are supposed to feel like they got a fair deal (even if the reality is something completely different). I thought $2000 over invoice for the 2001 was fair for two reasons:
1. It gave me a $2300 break from sticker. It's a matter of principle and it'll make me feel good (male ego, etc.)
2. It allowed the dealer to make a "clean" profit. They didn't need to incur the incidental charges of buying the car from Audi, advertising, etc. It doesn't get any cleaner than that.
The way I think about it, in this transaction the dealer is just a broker - as such I think that $2000 is more than fair.
Am I high, or something?<p>Soon to be
2001 A6 2.7T
Houston, Texas
In the pacific NW the prices have gone up a lot - CarOrder had to cut a check to my dealer yesterday (for my new 2.7T – 8 mi. on the odom!!!!) - for a car I ordered 6 mo. ago at about $2K over invoice - they finally ordered 4mo. ago for $2K over the price we agreed to (a hair less then MSRP) - and now the transaction prices are running $1K over invoice.
Ordering should get you out of that mess but supplies of the 2.7T are VERY tight – chatted with the GM and he said “four month ago we had 60 on the way in and no way to get rid of them, now we can’t find them”.
Check out CarOrder to get a sense of what the transaction prices are in your area.
Good luck (if you go Tip I’m jealous of the buttons on the wheel)
I sell out of state all the time, and see this issue come up often. Best of luck !!!!!
