Default sport package on A6 2.7 worth it?

is the sport package worth it if i'm planning on purchasing aftermarket 17" wheels? Also, I'm confused about all the different prices I'm hearing about... I'm in Las Vegas, but does $37,000 sound right (before options, fees, taxes, ect.) for a 2000 2.7? I'm assuming this because I've read here that 2,000 over invoice is a good deal. How about a 2001? Thanks in advance for any help...

I saw a 2.8 the other day and can tell you its worth it for the seats alone! Look at the springs as a bonus, my wheels/tires are in the basement where they belong after only 1000mi.SM

Default Yes, even more so with the 17" rims

Combination transforms the car. Picked mine up yesterday and several of the staff, including the Gen. Mngr. sought me out and commented on the package’s “correctness”.
BTW 245/45 (NOT 235/45) on 17X8.5. I investigated not just diam. but rpm (Rev. per Mi.) to get the gearing match and it looks great to boot.

Default spent 1.5 hours in twisties today

In my non-sport 2.7T. And the seats held me very well. I know the sport seats have even better bolsters, but if you don't drive twisties every day, you just end up inconveniencing yourself lifting your butt over the bolster.

I don't miss the sport package at all.

(For those in the Bay Area, I drove up 9 from Saratoga to Skyline (35) to Alpine Rd to Pescadero up 1 to 280. Great drive, esp. on a rainy day like today).

I tend to agree with Steve, I have a non PSK 4.2 and am on the fence about whether or not I should install the sport package springs. There are some qualities I would like that the sport package would address, but I am not sure I want the negatives that come with it. Namely ride quality in town where most of my driving is done unfortunately. I would like flatter cornering and less rebound, but my car already corners quite flat and the chassis has never even come close to lifting itself when the body is "rebounding" after a suspension compression in a corner. At what point is the improvement gained not worth the trade-offs in ride quality?

I think the whole decision is yours to make. It is a very, very subjective one. It all depends on how you want your car to behave on the roads you will be driving on. Not everybody in this forum will agree with Steve and I, but they hold different personal desires than we perhaps. What you really need to do is locate a PSK car and test drive it. That will tell you more than any of us can in terms of how it will suit your tastes.

As far as the "value" of the package is concerned, it is an excellent value dollar wise when you compare the competitions pricing for their sport packages.

Good Luck!

$37,000 is less than dealer's cost with the 'normal' options. Probably, at this late date, $1500 over is fair on a 2000 model. The 2001 would probably be more than that. In 1998, I test drove the A4 with sport package and a standard A6. The A6, by comparison, felt more like a Lincoln Town Car than I liked. I now have a 2000 model A6 with the PSK package, and it is the absolute best way to equipt the car, IMO. Everyone on this forum seems determined to change over to 17" rims in the aftermarket, mostly, it appears, because of "looks". I might agree except I have no good way to dispose of the perfectly good wheels and tires that came with the car.

Default In my opinion, the value of the PSK package...

...is in the suspension and the seats, and $1000 ($8xx invoice) is a very good value (you would spend as much just to change the springs). I have a 2.7T with PSK and replaced the wheels by 17 inch ones, as you plan to do. I'm very happy with the result (even when I wouldn't mind an even lower stance).
