Default First Road Trip in my 2.7T

I took my wife up to Lawton ,OK last Saturday to visit her mother. About a one way 200 mi. The car performed beautifully. I held it in the area of 3000 RPM most of the way (about 75 mph.) and averaged 22.7 mpg. I varied the RPM by using the clicks on the cruise control which put your speed up or down in 1 mph increments. (A neat way to vary your RPM during break in). I made an occasional quick burst up to 95-100 mph. The power at 3000 rpm in 6th gear is quite nice. There were about 27 miles of 2 lane in this trip and, at 70 mph, a downshift to 4th gave worlds of passing power, while keeping RPM's reasonable for break in. All in all a great trip- except for the drivers in the trucks- (SUV's). There was this lady, all by herself, in a huge truck, hogging the left lane, while talking on her cell phone. No amount of light flashing, honking, or gestures could disturb her reverie. She was in another world, and typical of cell phone users, which is one reason I come down on them so hard. This lady never moved over, and everyone had to pass her on the right.

You were lucky you only found one left lane hogger, on my trip upto Orlando this weekend on the turnpike (all 2lane)there were as many people who stayed put in the left lane as there were who moved over for you. South Florida is crazy, nobody can drive, there is no proper test to get a licence!

Default Made me MAD just reading about it!

I have a thing about SUV's to begin with (no flames please). Combined with the cell phone yakking and not moving over would've put me over the edge. I must confess though that I do talk on the phone while driving, being the young, rich and arrogant A6 driver that I am (not!). Seriously, my job demands it, but I do try to keep it to a minimum.
I'm loving my car too! Continued good luck.

Glad to hear about your trouble free trip. I am having trouble finding a good place to go beyond that 100 MPH, which is about as fast as I've had it. Left one of Franks "toll booths" on a still mostly vacant new road for a short burst to 100 MPH. Just went past the 1000 mile mark, so I am anxious to try a full throttle to full speed run somewhere safe.

SUV's and cell phones are a sore spot with me also. We have 2 cell phones (one for each car) but they are never used while driving. SUV's here in CO are actually a problem for us.
Parking lot jamming and trying to see around them is a pain. The new styles have a wide open rear end exposing most of the rear tires and some of these owners think mud flaps are only for people who actually use these commercial vehicles as intended. Let's all get a new Ford Ex-curse-tion and a extended life battery for the cell phone and see what kind of problems we can cause. I better quit, flames are most likely in my future now.
