"L" and "T" TBBs
1. What's the difference between them?
2. Would a car manufactured ~Jan/Feb 2000 have the new or the old TBB?
3. Is it possible to check which one I have without taking it apart?
4. Is it easy to get a "T" TBB? Audi? Clair?
5. Should one preventively replace an untorn L TBB?
Thanks.
This morning I went in with the new TBB in hand and a detailed printout of the procedure from Audizone. The front service shop manager (a very abbrasive guy) came out and said that this was a very long/involved procedure (15mins according to Audizone though, and that since my check engine light didn't come on they won't do anything except try to duplicate my problem with the acceleration. He had his shop mgr (a really nice guy), take a drive in my car with me and he couldn't notice any significant loss of acceleration (of course he wouldn't). The shop manager sat with me for a half an hour talking about Audi's/VW's (very informative), but basically they wouldn't do anything to my car unless the engine light came on. Also I couldn't get the control module codes done for the auto locking and remote window functions because it would make the dealer liable for a non-factory setting on the car.
With all that said I'm left with a new TBB in hand, same control module settings, and some more knowledge about Audi/VW.

The reply is nice, but without a dealer name and location how is this going to help out the forum readers?
It would be nice to be able to tell the good dealers from the bad.
From my 1 service visit, I would say Laurel in Westmont Il. gets a 90 out of 100.

If they persist...just install it yourself. This kinda stuff REALLY pisses me off.
I fully understand what you are going thru...I have BTDT.<p><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=3821"><br><br>

Yes you can get a car, but I don`t know if or what they charge. I waited for mine. It was an oil change, lock reprograming, and had them check the TSB`s. Call Ed Skibinski 630 655 6700 he is my service advisor if you have any Q`s.

I ordered a 2001 2.7T as well from Laurel in Westmont. I have been promised a 7/1 delivery, and if not, they will provide me a car until it comes in. Are you sure about that increase in warrenty coverage? Did you order (or try to) the sports package?

I decided it wouldn't be worth trying to get a dealer to replace the part & I didn't want to do it myself. Bought the part from Clair & had a local shop (Dynospot in MV CA ) replace the boot & use the VAG tool to reset the operational parameters (I did not have any error codes)as additional insurance.
The old part had small cracks, but it really didn't look bad...not what I expected to see. At any rate, the power is back now, so the old boot was either leaking thru the cracks or the clamps had loosened enough to mess the sensor/airflow.
I would suggest finding a local shop that handles chips (Dynospot does GIAC)....they probably have replaced a few already so it will be a quick job for them & less aggravation for you.
good luck!
