Default 2001 A6 Leasing Dealer vs Car Order.com

Dealer quoted me the following today $740.00 per month lease on 2001 A6T, convenience pak, zenons, leather, cold weather pak Bose, , side guard curtain?rear side air bags.

Car Order has the 2000 prices but quoted an estimated lease at $617.00. They do not at present offer leases but offer the info for comparison purposes. It looks like the Price for the car is $42,411 at Car Order and around 45,000 at the dealer. This, however, still does not make up for the difference in the lease cost. I know the 2001's are more expensive but I wonder how much. I think if Car order starts offering leases at the rates they quote, it may be quite a good deal. Interest in both places is about 8%. I don't know if the estimated residual value would be the difference. I really like the dealer but wonder if a lease can be negotiated like a sale. They claim they are going through Audi. Also, if I order the car, they will not guarantee what the lease price will be when it arrives.

Any ideas?

Default Example

2000 A6 2.7T
Invoice 34480 msrp 38550
options u said 4906 5575
dest 525 525
39 month 55% .00245 551.6273
with tax .0075 594.38
at 1500 over invoice 593.7639
with tax .0075 639.78

Assumes no down. Does not allow for any additional fees such as advertising, bank stuff, luxury tax etc. 1st payment or registration.

The 55% is a guess I know for 48 months it was 51%. I used Calif sales tax.
The .00245 mf was a special rate that may have ended. April would now.
I'll double check my numbers but I think I'm close.

You need to know several additional factors to compare leases - up front payment, lease length, allowed miles. Along with the "money factor", cap cost and residual. The monthly nut is only one part of it and is easily manipulated by the dealer/lessor.
Sure all leases are negotiable, but there are a lot more traps for the unwary than in a straight purchase.
I think Edmunds has some good lease tips.
Good luck.

In a no money down deal, you will still pay
1st payment approx 640
reg approx 560
fees
could be advertising 315
doc fee 45
luxury tax 108
bank fee 490
Deposit???
Approx 2100 to 2200 dollars, unless you roll some of the fees into cap cost. Alot of options are available.

They do offer leasing, and their payment calculator lets you change variables like sales tax, down payment, term and credit quality to look at different scenarios.

Within certain parameters, a lease is as negotiable as a purchase. The numbers that can be played with include cap cost, residual and money factor. However, residual and money factor are set by the leasing company, so realistically the dealer can only move on their selling price, and you know how they love to do that ....

Car order's risidual is 49%. Emailed them for miles, probably 15,000. COmparing leasing is tough.Car order says they will not have the 2001 prices until Sept so it makes it hard.

Using Cars Direct, I get about the same per month lease cost as the dealer. Interesting. Car order must be low balling

You should try not to start with negotiating on the lease details. Dealers will just move numbers around. What you should do is start with the purchase price of the car. Once you're set with a reasonable price, for example $2000 over invoice, then use that price to build the lease around it. This way, you're always only paying a set amount over whatever the 2001 invoice is going to be + the lease interest.

The fact that carOrder don't really have a leasing program. Their number means nothing.
