How well will an aluminum hood vs. steel take a hail stone. Any guesses/knoweldge/experiences?

We neida spel cheker. Just got hailed on. 1/4" to 3/8" stuff.
I haven't checked the car, but don't think these were big enough to hurt anything. The plows were out to clear "closed" roads - Oh boy. Trying to design a car cover using some 1" thick high density foam suspended with 2" foam blocks attached to the underside of a water resistant cover. I think it'll actually work for stuff up to about an inch. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get it off after a servere hail producing thunderstorm if everything gets saturated - ha.

All private and commercial aircraft are built with aluminum skin. There is probably some difference in the aircraft/car metal formula and in the guage of the metal, but I can tell you one thing for sure- aluminum dents. In small aircraft the repair is either reskin or putty/paint.

I recall about 10 years ago driving home and it started to hail some pretty big ones. The guy right in front of me in a new Nissan 300ZX or something abruptly swerved to the left across oncoming traffic, through a very shallow ditch and onto someone's lawn and stopped under a big oak tree. Somehow amusing and annoying at the same time.
