I think some are just colored bulbs and some seem to be actually upgraded bulbs... the difference being the colored bulbs go for about $10-$20 and the others sell for near $100/set on many auto parts sites. But I'm not sure if those, too, are just a joke. I need new bulbs anyway, so I am going to order a set of low beams monday and will report the results when I get them installed... might be a little over a week. Or sooner if someone tells me how to install headlamps on a '96 A6!<p>>>Muhammad

There are systems available, but you are talking $1000 to $2000 last time I noticed (over a year ago). You also will be installing a new wiring loom and a high voltage ballast power supply similar to that of a flourescent system.

 

There are good quality bulbs made by a couple companies. They are normal filamented bulbs with special glass which turns the light bluish. The output is nothing like a Xenon, and they are filamented bulbs, unlike Xenon HIDs which are vapor lamps.

They just look cool. They don't provide the better pattern of a vapor lamp.
