Default Brake Vibration

I am starting to notice a vibration when applying the brakes (even very gentle braking) on my 4 month old '00 A6 2.7T w/PSK. It is not severe enough to be able to feel a vibration in the brake pedal, but it is audible. Also, it seems to have started after the car was parked for approx. 4 weeks without being driven. The car is unmodified and hasn't been driven hard.

Has anyone else experienced this, and what was done to resolve it? The only other post I have read relating to this says the cause was warped rotors, but this seems unlikely as the car only has 1800 miles on the odometer.

Any thoughts?

Default Quite a few months ago............................

there were some posts on this topic. Evidently, there is a problem with rust developing because of the position of the pads on, or near the rotor when the car isn't driven for awhile. I think I remember that the part of the rotor under the pads rusts less (or maybe it was more), resulting in a high spot on the rotor. I believe this is caused or made worse by the rotor and/or pads not being dry when the car is parked. I think I remember reading that in some cases the problem corrected itself. And perhaps in another the rotor needed to be resurfaced.

Sorry to be so vague, but I wanted to be able to give you a general idea what happened. Perhaps someone else has a clearer recollection, or has experienced this first hand.

Default Just Wednesday...

Picked up my new 2.7t. Had a hard vibration when I braked. Noticed a high spot while I visually inspected the front rotors. Just braked hard for about 50 miles. Driving normally but braking hard when I had to stop. The problem corrected itself. Hope this helps.

Default Yep, sure did...

Had the rotors resurfaced with the car in port prior to delivery. Something about rust and possible warping. There is a TSB out on this. Then after about 6-7K or so on the car, I brought it in for service for the vibration and a few other things. Dealer replaced the rotors no questions asked. Has been fine ever since, but now at about 12K or so, I am noticing a slight vibration again. Nothing big though, but there is definitely something there.

Default Re: Had the same problem...

Apparently when our A6 Avant was delivered, it has been sitting on a lot for a while, and the rotors rusted with a film on it.. This caused vibration when braking particularly from highway speeds... Took it to the dealer, had them clean out the braking system and glaze the rotors... Problem persisted for a week or so, but after frequent use, it went away.. Seems Audis are prone to this type of problem with their cars... Hope this helps..
