Default HID headlight aiming

I have a 2.7t with HID headlights. Ever since I have the car, about 7 months, the headlights seem to be aimed far too low. I have taken it to two different dealers who both said that the computer indicated that the headlights had not been aimed. They aimed the lights but the headlights still look too low. I can only see about 50-100feet in front of the car on a flat road, is this normal? Also how come the diagnostic computer indicated that the lights had never been adjusted?

Default Same boat (sort of)

I just scheduled my first sevice appt and told the writer that this was going to be on my "to do" list. He already gave me the heads up about the xenons riding lower (than halogens) on the road due to their intensity and the resultant potential for blinding other drivers. I said "screw the other drivers - I want to see". When be both stopped laughing he said they'd look at it. Annoying as heck, isn't it?

Default Just do it yourself!

It's dead nuts simple and you can fiddle with it until you get it the way you want it (which took me about three tries.)

I'll try it if the dlr doesn't do it to my liking. Thanks Greg.

Default Mini-FAQ

1. You need a phillips head screwdriver or a hex driver. Not sure of the size, but any reasonable set will have one that matches.

2. Read the link attached to this message.

3. Didn't do the reading? OK. Park about ten feet from a wall on a level surface. On the wall, mark a spot opposite the center of the low beam bulb.

4. Find the adjustment screw. It's the white plastic thing on the top of the headlight with a six sided hole and a phillips head inside the hole.

5. Adjust the headlights so that the "hot-spot" is about three inches below the mark. Just turn the screw. Which direction? The direction required; one way is up the other down. Don't remember which but I'm confident that you'll figure this out.

6. Drive around and see how you like it. See how your fellow drivers like it.

Rinse. Repeat as necessary.

If all that sounds too complex, just park near a wall and fiddle with the height. Your goal is a slightly down-pointing beam.

FWIW, from the factory, mine were adjusted to properly illuminate about three feet of road.

Default Thanks

I had put on springs and, maybe just me, but it seemed the beam was hitting a few feet short of where it used to.
