Default Audioablo: 16" Contis and tire pressure

Since the S4 thread is probably now on page 300 or something

I said I run 38F/36R, to which you replied "I think I'm still running factory spec (pretty much the max)." and then something about 40psi.

I didn't go look at my doorframe again, but I thought it was recommending 34psi F/R for the 215/55-16 all-seasons. My Contis are marked 44psi max. Thus, my comment about raising tire pressure to 38F/36R. Are you running 40 F/R? Does your door panel recommend different numbers?

I think FrankC and some of the 17" guys are liking 38ish, but I'm just a 16" guy

FWIW, my car was delivered substantially below door panel pressure - so one shouldn't assume the tires are anywhere near recommended pressure at delivery
Richard

Default Rich, not sure what your question is.

You can adjust tire pressure safely up to "max" (and not below the "min"). FWIW, I rarely look at or follow door-posted recommendations. I look at the tires (for max allowed) and then experiment with different PSI until I find the handling/ride comfort balance I like.

Right now I'm at 41F/39R on my 17" SP-9000's. I like it here.

Default Sorry, kinda picked up in the middle of a thread Audiablo started in S4 forum

about oversteer he experienced. Some discussion of tires and pressures ensued and I was confused by his statements about "max" pressure and what he was running. I read his message to imply he was running at the recommended AND maximum pressures and that those numbers were both 40psi...which didn't line up with *any* of the numbers I had! (I recalled Recommended = 34, Max = 44). I would have continued the thread on S4, but it was scrolling off quickly and was really an A6 thread. (Sorry for the "outing" Audiablo

I usually start at door pressure and almost immediately add a few pounds to it - assuming I don't cross the max in doing so. My 38F/36R is just where I am in current experimentation. Curious what's working for others with the 16" 215/55 Continentals.
Richard
