Headlight washer cap NOT a warranty item???
I Noticed the ugly gaping hole in front of the passenger side headlight. Damn! But I kind of expected it after our late-night rainstorm the other day when I had to use the washers while driving. After hearing about the problem here, I was afraid of it happening to me.
Anyway- called the dealer, and was told it will take about a week. And it would be about $15-20.
HUH? This isn't a covered item?
"well, it could have come off at a car wash," the service guy said. "Um, it was the other night in the rainstorm while I was on 93 going south!" was my reply.
Has anyone else fought this battle yet? It's only $20, but I'm more peeved about the principle. I mean, this is a pretty common problem, from what I hear, and it seems like a silly design (hello, aerodynamics 101 anyone?). That, and at $43k, this shouldn't really be an issue.
Thanks-
Marc
By the way my headlight washer cover did come off in a carwash once so it is surely possible but that shouldn't happen either. The carwash that mine fell off in was a brushless wash that is really quite gental on the car.
Cheers,
Ernesto
"I had a new headlight washer cap put on my A6 this morning (it blew off last week on my drive home from work). The dealership service dept. showed me their quick fix for ensuring that the cap doesn't blow off again. They wrap a plastic tie (one of those cheap ones that cinches up nice and tight) around the base of the cap where it attaches to the washer head. I also had them put one of those ties on the cap that didn't blow off last week. Hopefully their solution will prevent this very annoying problem from happening again."

I was told that later 2000s do actually have it glued to the washer head.
