Default Can't heel-toe in my six-speed

Hey, any of you 2.7T 6-speed owners: you notice how hard it is to heel-toe this thing? The brake pedal is much higher off the floor relative to the accelerator. You'd need to be some Cirque du Soleil contortionist to pull it off. Yeah, I'm spoiled by my old 325i which was a breeze in this respect.

Does anyone have a solution? Can the brake pedal be adjusted a little closer to the floor? Any aftermarket solutions? Or is ankle reconstruction my only option?

Just wondering. . .
Richard

You might take a look at Perfect Image Creations, Inc I found in the Quattro Quarterly magazine. They have a pedal set on the web site for the A4 (I'm not sure of any differences on the pedals on the A6) that might work for you.

I also find that the brakes are a bit sensitive for heel and toeing. When I hit the gas I end up putting too much pressure on the brake pedal. I guess that if the position of the pedals were better the sensitive brakes would be less of a problem. I don't think that Audi really ever expected anyone to be attempting heel-toe in the A6, wish they had.

Default Re: I think the reason the brake pedal is higher is so that

people can't say their car had unintended acceleration.

The higher brake pedal means you have to make an effort to hit the brake thereby, not confusing it with the accelerator pedal.

My Tip 4.2 brake pedal is the same.

Default Use the left side of your foot for the gas and the right side for the brake...

...large shoes and feet actually help this process.<p><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/LCPawsig1.jpg">

Default OK, I'm sure you're a little confused by that, so use the right side for the gas and left for brake

Default Also, the new drive-by-wire cuts gas immediately if you go hard on the brakes...

it also cuts gas after a few seconds if you're lightly on the brakes.<p><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/LCPawsig1.jpg">

Default If you modify your technique...

I've had a chance to take a high performance driving course (advanced high performance in October!), and I spoke with some of the instructors about 'heel and toe'. First of all, they all have their own techniques, so there is no single 'best way' that everyone should use. What they told mel is to sit in your car for a while and experiment with different seating positions and techniques - the 'right one' is the one you are most comfortable with. You may also need a different technique for casual braking vs racing, since the brake pedal will be depressed much farther if you're racing. For my 2.7T, I use the center of my foot on the brake, and 'roll' the toe over to the gas. It's not too bad.
