Default I can't believe this happened to me today .... (long)

I purchased my 2000 A6 2.7T on aug.1 from New Country Audi of Greenwich, Conn. and had the worst salesperson ever. I've purchased a car there before (when Pray Audi) and had nothing but praise for the dealership. I started this purchase by requesting my former salesperson but was told that he was no longer with the dealership. I was transferred over to a salesperson who informed me that he was a friend of my former salesperson and would be glad to help me. We set up a test drive appointment for a Saturday morning at about 11 am. That morning at about 9 am I get a phone call from this person making sure that I was coming up for a test drive, I answered yes but had a question about making sure that he had a 6-speed available. Halfway through my question I realized that he had hung up on me already. I took it as "hey maybe he didn't hear me", man, was I wrong! Upon arrival at the dealership I was greeted by the secretary who promptly called my salesperson. He came over, lead me to his desk and asked me about the car I was interested in. As soon as he found out, he jumped up, got a set of keys and was like "let's Go". I was gung-ho for the chance to finally drive the car when I realized it was a Tip. I informed him that I wanted a 6-speed. He let out a grunt "like I was bothering him or something" strutted away and proceeded to pull up in what is now my car. the test drive was great, everything I expected and more. After the test drive we proceeded to his desk where he started to give me some numbers, they were in the right ballpark and the deal was begining, this is where it gets worse. I began to ask questions about the car that were brushed off as though never asked, simple yes and no questions were answered with the rudest response I have ever heard "Finish up the paperwork!" I'm like, who the hell is this guy! I look at my girlfriend sitting there looking at me like I must be an idiot for buying this car. Bottom line is, I loved the car and the price was right, I'm not gonna let this guy bother me.
It only gets worse. While I was signing the papers with the business manager, I asked him if we could see the car again, just to take a better look around. He said that when we were done, he would show it to us again. Well, that never happened, as I was signing my papers he strolled off to other customers leaving us in the dust. I walked over to him as he was showing a couple a car and asked him what was going on? He said that he was busy now, and that if we could go look for ourselves downstairs. We found our way to the bottom parking lot with no help from him and looked at my new car in the dark and with no keys. That was about all my girlfriend could take, she stormed upstairs and asked the secretary to get the key from him because she knew that he was with another customer. He told her to wait 10 minutes. She was like "we just bought a car from you, asked you to show us the car, you walk away and help other people and tell us to go look at it ourselves, now you want to tell me to wait ten minutes?" I guess he could tell that she was mad because he just handed her the keys. When we came upstairs he was still with the customers so we handed him the keys and left. My girlfriend was pleading with me to cancel the sale but I couldn't pass up this sweet deal. I figured that I would finish the deal and tell Audi about it when they did there follow-up. During the pickup, he tried to be extra nice but really got me mad when he insulted my girlfriend for acting the way she did. I was like "are you kidding me, after what you did to us your lucky I'm buying this car, your lucky that theses cars sell themselves" he tried to say that it was a busy day and he had to move on... come on!!! He had the nerve to tell me "When the rep from Audi calls take care of me, it's very important!" I let out a sarcastic laugh and was like "uuuhhh YEAH, SURE, WHATEVER"
Well Audi called me, I told them everything that happened -- there was more but these are the main reasons -- they apologized for my bad experience and told me that they would send an "alert" to the dealer and to Audi of America. I was happy with those results and asked that he (the salesperson) not contact me -- he's that type of guy!
Well guess what, I get a call today at work from this guy and he's going off on me. That I lied, told him everything was good and some other bull. I was like "why are you calling me", he starts like yelling at me, calling me a liar and other things. I couldn't believe this!!! He kept yelling then hung up on me! I promptly called Audi of America to report this, they were stunned, filed another complaint and gave me the dealership's head manager's name so that I could speak to him. I called him, he told me that it was their policy to pass customer complaints back to the salesperson to follow up on... but a complaint like this??? do I want to talk to this guy again, no, and to get yelled at by him, what the... is going on there. I told him that if he continued to call me at work that it would take this to another level that I didn't want it to lead to -- this was out of sheer anger-- he agreed that the salseperson was wrong for what he said but stuck to the policy of letting this person call me. I was stunned, just didn't make sense. He apologized to me and assured me that this would be the last of my contact with this person. I assured him that I still held the dealership with high regards, just not this salesperson. They have always taken care of me before and i'm not gonna let one bad seed spoil this.
i'm sorry for the long rant but I had to vent and felt that other Audi owners would like to hear some of this. This is definitely a first for me and I wish it on no one.
Has anyone else had an experience this bad??
00 A6 2.7TQM

Last November I put a $1000.00 deposit on a 2.7 for a dealer locate. After a few days they couldn't find what I wanted and I started to have second thoughts about the 2.7 anyway. After much agonizing I decided it was in my best interest to hold off on such a large purchase and I felt better because this would give me more time to decide whether or not I really wanted the 2.7. I guess I was really having second thoughts at the time. So anyway, my salesman was great, up until I decided to pull my deposit that is. When I called to tell him I was holding off for a while he got all pissy and hung up on me! I could'nt believe it. Two weeks later the grand was still on my credit card and I was pissed. I called back and he rudely said that he forgot and that he would get it done and then hung up. what an ***. A few weeks later I went into the dealership and told the manager what happened and that if I was going to buy an Audi that the salesman and possibly the dealership had lost a sale from me. The manager was very apologetic and promised to treat me right if and when I decide on an Audi. If I choose an Audi I will give them (HOEN) another shot based on their reputation and the managers response to my situation. I will consider it an isolated incident. It would be nice to wave goodbye to that a$$hole as I drive off in a new Audi, though. BAD10

And they wonder why people are begging to buy cars on the web-the dealer network is AoA's weak link

Yikes! I've had this experience before - thankfully not with my Audi! I was buying a Maxima, and the salesperson kept wanting to know what color I wanted. I calmly explained that I was gathering initial information on the car, and was not ready to pick out a specific car - especially just based on color choice. "So what car do you want?" hmmmmm.

So, I asked to speak with the sales manager. He wants to know which car on the lot I'm interested in. Hmmmm...what we have here is a failure to communicate. it was a busy Saturday, so we just got up and walked out. Ended up buying an Infiniti. (I30 - same car as the Maxima, but nicer trim, and much better sales/service!)

My sales experience with Audi was quite good. The saleman let me abuse him on a "spirited" test drive (6spd 2.7t). I told him I wanted the car, but just not that color. (it was Ming Blue...sorry ming!). He actually got the allocation list, and we selected a car that was in port, with almost all of the options I wanted. (Also Silver/Onyx 6spd 2.7tqms). Then the price negotiations - took 3 minutes. I presented him with the dealer costs and list prices - told him he could make his money - poof, done! Whole process was about 2 hours, spread over 2 days. (Test drive was 1 day, deal was done next day)

I will say that they still don't have their act together quite like either the Mercedes dealers or the Infiniti dealers. I have had very positive sales and service experiences with both of those brands...
DLow

Except for an unusual sense of humor, I had nothing but good luck with my rep. Sorry about yours.

I never hear anything good about Pray Audi / New Country Audi... That's a typical experience I hear about that place.. I don't know how that dealership sells so many cars...

There's probably a bad apple in every industry's sales force. It's really a service to the manager to provide feedback like you did -- helps to deselect the unsuitable ones. But if he calls again, you should hang up on him and call his boss again! IMHO, anyway.

Thanks for your responses everyone. I too had a Mercedes and had a deposit on a 2001 C320 sport when I decided to purchase my car. I almost felt bad about canceling the order because of the comfort level I had with the dealer and salesperson. Hope no one ever gets in this situation and hope Audi does something to stop this from changing people's minds about a great car.
00 A6 2.7TQM

Default Wow,.....I would have to agree with your girlfriend

I would have cancelled my order. VERY LOUDLY to ensure that he would not get another customer. Remember, he gets commission on your sale. If I don't think he deserves it,...out I go. I would prefer to spend a bit more somewhere else and have a better experience.

Guy, nearly the same thing happened to me when I bought my current car. Talk about your high-pressure, no information sales job...ran a credit check without my permission, "tricked" me into driving off the lot with the car, then said he had misunderstood me and that it would be difficult to "unsell" the car to me. It was a nightmare.

If you're in the area, don't EVER go to Almaden Mazda. They're a bunch o' scuzballs! Same as you, if I didn't end up loving the car in a few days while they dragged their feet on taking it back. I was sick of my rental and it looked awful cute sitting in the parking lot.

Some salespeople should be shot on sight!
