Default Anything else to improve my '99 A6 2.8L than supercharging?

I'm entering my 2nd yr on my 39 month leased '99 A6 2.8L tip. Of course, I didn't know about the 2.7L so I was only able to add a Wetterauer chip and change the air filter.
Besides supercharging and exhaust what other options are avail for low end improvements. Is there a good throttle body for the 30V engine? Any other ideas? I don't think it's worth looking into different gearing ratio mods. My NSX is a beast after changing the rear gears. Any REAL ideas available?
Thanks, DennisD

Default All it takes is money :)

Supercharging is definitely the way to go for some more power...but only up to about 280hp. For a bit more money...trade up to a 2.7T and that will give you a great base to start increasing hp. Chip and you are in the 300hp's more on tap with manifolds, exhausts, etc, etc,...common turbo hp increase stuff.

I have a 2.8L Avant,..so I don't have much choice.. I have seen the supercharger installed. It is just BEAUTIFUL....ifyou like mechanical things that is. It is also a bit more exclusive.....imagine...a supercharged Avant.

Other things to do include standard hot rod stuff (port and polish, blueprinting your engine, manifold, breathing, etc,..). Not many performance parts for the 2.8, os this is going to be expensive whatever you do.

Just one thing. The stock automatic transmission is rated for just 230 hp (I don't remember the torque...which is more important). The PES kit pumps out 280HP. There is a safety range in here and PES have told me that they have talked with the company that builds the transmission and they claim that it is not a problem. But it may not handle much more. Therefore, if this is the case, then you should not do much to it anyways after the supercharger. Imagine that,...spend $5K and know that you can't possibly spend any more on engine upgrades! Neat.

Or you can go the all motor route, which will probably cost more since all pieces will be custom....but it will sound great!

Default How about a Tip chip?

That 1-2 shift bothers me about as much as anything else. Of course, another 50 hp would'nt hurt either, but there's a huge price for that!

Default I've been looking for hop-up parts for the 30V...

for some time now and have found just about all there is. The chips don't provide much, the G2 from PES-Tuning is rather expensive, there are no aftermarket exhaust headers and a custom exhaust would only provide about 20hp. I would really enjoy about a 30hp increase for fun but I'm not sure whether it would be worth the expense (estimated about $2000). And no I will not 'gas' my quattro. :-)

GO QUATTRO!

PES-Tuning

Default I can't believe 20 more hp for just a new exhaust system

That amt sounds kinda fishy, I didn't think the dual exhaust system on the A6 is that inefficient. I'd suspect about 10 more hp, 20 sounds like if there were headers . I'd go for 20 more hp and replace my exhaust system if it's under 1k. Now PES on a 39 month lease?, nah!, I'd go for a 2.7L and chip it.

Default the more and more I see, the more I don't buy any of this

Hot rod magazines do tests with aftermarket exhausts and frequently see loss of power. Increasing exhaust size doesn't always reduce backpressure. And reducing backpressure doesn't necessarily increase performance.

It seems odd, but it seems to be true. I can't explain it.

Don't waste your money is all I have to say. If you want an automatic Audi now sell the 2.8 litre with the multitronic gearbox which does over 1 sec better than the Tiptronic 0 to 60 mph.

Also don't forget the uplift expected for May-June '01 (in Europe), which will mostly affect the interior and some minor touches on the outside, but the 2.7T is expected to go to 250hp (vs. the current 230hp, even if it is marketed in the US as having 250hp...)

Default Exhaust does include headers and Hi-Flo cats- sorry for the confusion.

On my Mustang I replaced the exhaust (Headers-> back) and I got close to 35hp. Granted the ford 302 is not as tuned as an Audi but 20 HP is realistic for a full exhaust upgrade. A cat back system would only pump maybe another 10hp.

Default Has anyone tested the G2 supercharger? Read about 90% noise reduction...

also no final pricing available on PES site. Does anyone know if the manual transmission can stand the improved hp and torque?
Steve
