Default Audi cell phone for 2001 A6 2.7T

My car is comming in next week. I wonder if this phone can be installed by the dealer or ordered from a place like Money Radio. Audi wants about $500.00 for it which is about half of what they wanted when I got my 98 A6. I had a Motorolla installed in the console in the 98. It utilizes the microphone but not the speakers. Since the new car has the buttons in the steering wheel, it might be worth it to have this phone. I have found the one I had installed in the console is hard to use. Also, Is there prewiring for an antenna?I have a digital cell phone i carry around but found the Motorolla in the car is more reliable. No cut outs or dropped signals. This digital hype is all baloney in my opinion. It is, in fact, worse than analog. About the only advantage is that it is cheaper.<p>98 A6Q Europa Blue Mica

Default Dealer can install (more)

about $500, but you may be able to negotiate price. Will work completely hands-free.

Default The cell antenna is in the window??for 2001?

Is that right? I've been told the cell phone antenna is under the headliner...but have not found it yet. Where did you get the information that the cell phone antenna is in the window? I know that the radio antenna is in the window...even my dealers' tech said cell antenna is in headliner...but...

I agree with you about digital--I just wish the companies would provide cheaper service for analog. But I'll happily pay extra to have these features. I have the factory phone and with the steering wheel buttons it's a godsend. Completely hands free, and you can just scroll through your numbers with one button, then make or end the call with the other, never taking your eyes off the road. Great quality through the speaker too.

Default Re: "Oh, and the antenna is in the window, already pre-wired" -- Caveat!

We need more information on this, if the rear window antenna is indeed prewired also for cellular usage. As the factory option is analog cellular, then this means that U.S. Audis would be equipped to tune in the 800-900 MHz frequency bands. There may be a signficant degradation for the newer digital frequencies, which are in the 1800-1900 MHz area -- even when compared to a digital handset's built-in antenna when in the car. My initial inclination is to believe that the handset's antenna would prove to be better, in this case. Has anyone succeeded in using the pre-wired antenna for GSM/PCS type services? And better yet, has anyone conducted some tests of indicated signal strength as compared with the handset alone?

The postings and FAQs I've seen indicate that the __antenna cable and its connector__ are available in the headliner at the center of the rear window, but have been ambiguous as to whether it's actually connected to an "antenna" per se.

Default Antenna connection is in Trunk...other end is MIA...

I have found the antenna connection in the trunk...the one you're supposed to connect to the transceiver, or in my case, Nokia cradle. I'm trying to find the other end...the end that connects to an antenna. Thanks for your ideas.
