help...trying to find prior post regarding
a fellow audi owner with the six speed manual transmission doing his own short shifter modification. he stated something to the fact that he cut one inch off the the top of the rod assembly or something to that effect and then subsequently re- threading it for re-attachment of the ****. he stated that it gave a much better short throw feel versus the uuc shifter because his modification was to the top of the rod versus uuc's mod. to the bottom of the assembly?? i'm trying to remember how his post was worded but no such luck finding anything in the search of the archives.. anyone remeber this or am i going coo- coo ????????? thanks

Unlikely to give "better" feel.
Removing one inch from the top of the shift lever isn't likely to give much decrease in the throw (I don't recall where I put my stock shifter so I can't measure it, but guessing I'd say around 15%).
Also, one of the things that makes the UUC short shifter nice is that it replaces the Audi stock plastic joint with an all metal joint, removing much of the slop from the mechanism.
