was someone having problems with whiny AM reception?
I thought I remembered this from months ago.
I found this on the (newly restored) Audi Tech board.
Subject Number 1:
Symphony Radio AM Reception 2000 MY A6
In the event you have a complaint of a buzzing noise heard through the stereo speakers when tuned to a low frequency AM band, while the engine cooling fans are operating, remove the ground wire at position 8 of the black T8f connector at the radio, and install a new shorter independent ground using wire and terminals supplied in the VAS 1978 repair kit.

I found the trip computer also causes interference - if you turn it off, fainter stations come in better. Also, one odd thing I noticed is that with a CB radio, it picks up the smaller aux fan noise very easily - but if you turn off the car and pull out the key, you can still hear the interference as the fan winds down - as if the power to it isn't just cut off, but ramped down. Weird.
