Questions Re: Comparison of A6 Avant and Volvo V70 XC . . . .
My wife wants to trade our A6 avant for an XC before our warranty expires. I've got a couple of questions. First, I remember a comparison between the Allroad and the XC a few months back but I can't seem to find it. Does anyone have the link. Second, does anyone have general comments regarding a comparison between the regular avant and the xc. TIA!

has a comparo with the Allroad in the features section. I think Car and Driver did a comparison as well.
The all wheel drive in the Volvo is based upon a viscous coupling. The Volvo is a FWD car until it starts to slip. You may lose control before the power has a chance to act on the rear wheels. However, it is cheap to construct and helps a little with the gas mileage.
Also, according to edmunds, the Volvo is selling for BELOW WHOLESALE. Resale can't be pretty. Even if you lease, make sure you really, really like it, as getting out of the lease early will be impossible unless you have a pocketful of cash.
Whatever you do, just don't get a white one - looks like a fridge with unpainted GMC plastic truck bumpers stuck on IMHO.

(1) I lack the $; (2) history of problems with Audi; (3) my wife loves the look of the XC . . .
and more importantly, it's her car. Believe me, I've tried to talk some sense into her. We've also had a ton of minor problems with the Avant and monthly trips to the dealership have gotten very, very old. Can you say check engine light?

Closest dealership is VW/Audi, the same guys that we've been having problems . . .
with on the Avant. In other words, I expect our service experience will get worse with a VW instead of better. Example, I take the avant in for the 30k brake service. It takes two days instead of one. I get it back, and two days later the check brake pad light comes on. Apparently, although they performed the 30K brake service, no one thought to check the pads. I bring car back next week. They change pad but put a 8x12 inch scratch on bumper. Worst of all, no one thinks to even mention this to me. Great. I bring it back again to have the scratched fixed. Following day, check engine light comes on (for the 3rd time in 6 months) . . . .
