Default Need Help - 2.7T Tire Upgrade Size

Just ordered Dunlop SP5000s from TireRack based upon many posts on this forum. Eddie recommended 225/55/16s for my 2000 2.7T (PSP)6M, versus the more common 225/50/16s often cited here. Has anyone successfully mounted 225/55/16s on a 2.7T - I checked the clearance today with the stock 215/55/16s (Contis) and there isn't much room. Since the 225/55s are a little wider/taller I'm concerned. Any info would be appreciated.

A matter of choice and wallet. I chose the Pirelli
PZero Rosso 235/45/17 over the Potenzas and the Dunlop's, from what I read up on all of the tires at Tirerack, and on the net. I like the way they look and ride/handle, but again, choose what fits your style.

I am running AVS Sport 245-35ZR19s. They fit, as long as you don't mind tight clearances (less than the width of my finger). I think 255s would rub... Note that the size I chose is slightly larger in diameter than the stock sport SP9000s that came on the car, resulting in an approximately 1 mph error on the speedo at 70 mph.... You (MSP27T) might check to see how large the error will be for your application, but why not go with 235's? Are the stock rims too narrow?

Default Here, check out this link.... you can calculate your tire options

It looks like the 55 series might actually be closer to the correct diameter, if it fits, check yourself, but it looks like the diameter increases by 5.5mm.....

Tire/Wheel Upgrade Applet

Thanks for the followups. I did all the size calcs and the 225/55s are the closest SP5000s offered by TRack ( a little wider, a little taller - 1.71% dia). I chose the 5000s based upon the best compromise between dry/winter handling here in the Northland (Minn/St.Paul). My major concern is clearance of the 225/55/16s on the front suspension, which already seems really tight with the stock Contis (215/55/16). Most posts on the forum talk about 225/50/16s which I planned to order, but Eddie recommended the 55s. Has anyone successfully mounted 225/55/16s SP5000s on a 2.7T (non-PSK)?

Default You should be fine....

I have the SP5000s, 225/50-16 on my A6. Original suspension and rims. Significant improvement in every area- wet and dry handling, ride and tread noise. Actually satisfactory in the snow- here in Chicago and for my trips to the inlaws in NW Indiana(lots of lake effect snow). Pushed snows with the bumper a number of times getting through before the snow plows.
The front tires are VERY close to the spring perches, but do fit.
The 225/55 is the same width as a 225/50 but will be slightly taller. My tight clearance in front is purely a width issue; I would not be concerned about the difference in height as it relates to clearance.

Default 225/55 16's will work. I had them on for about three weeks before I changed

to a 235/45 17. I noticed a higher degree of sidewall flex with the 225/55, as compared to the 215/55, and I didn't like it too much. There aren't any clearance problems, however.
