Default Attn: All purchasers of S4/A6 Mintex pads from A.W.E.

We have confirmed a fitment problem with the Mintex Redbox brake pad sets we have been selling for the FRONT of the Audi S4 and A6 2.7T/4.2 (MDB1751).

While the pads will physically fit in the caliper, the outer pads overhang the inner radius of the rotor face and the backing plates lack the proper locating pins to keep them from moving around in the caliper.

While we strongly feel this is *NOT* a dangerous situation, it is a situation that we feel can lead to uneven pad wear and the possibility of odd noises from the front brakes.

Apparently, we were the first shop selling this pad to notice this irregularity after a secondary inspection. Mintex UK has another pad set in production for the S4/A6, and they are red labelling us a set to confirm fitment on the US cars. We all believe that this fitment problem stems from caliper differences between the US and European models. The new pad design is hopefully based on the US caliper.

We will be contacting all parties that have received these pads from us, and arranging replacements. Mintex/Sachs USA has assured us that even used pads will be exchanged with no problems.

Once again, we stress that this is *NOT* a safety issue (as confirmed by Mintex). If you have these Mintex pads currently installed and do not have your original stock pads anymore for reinstallation, you can keep driving until we get you a replacement set. If you have not installed these Mintex pads yet, we ask you to hold off until we get you a replacement set.

We appreciate your understanding in this matter, and sincerely apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused.

Once again, this issue affects only the FRONT pads for the S4/A6, not the rear pads that we have been shipping.

Any concerns or comments, please contact us immediately.

Todd:

Does this "problem" also exist for a 1998 A6 Quatrro, with the 2.8 engine? Is this the same size pad as for the 2.7T engine?
