IMO, Audi should follow BMW and offer S4 and S6 only in sedan and stick

BMW is reserving their latest M3 and M5 models for serious performance-minded drivers (in my book,that equates to stick shift only). I don't have a problem with a Tiptronic S8 because it's a large car and most buyers would prefer an automatic

If BMW can have a massive waiting list for the stick only M3 and M5, to me that indicates that there is a large enough market. To me, Audi's decision to offer the S6 in Avant and Tiptroinc version only can only mean that they are going after the luxury-sport market and they don't want to go head to head with the BMW M5, MB E55 AMG or the Jag XJR.

Just voicing my opinion. Feel free to flame on.

Avants are fine, too, but AoA, please offer the sedan/stick combo! I'd buy one if I could!

S6 Avant is odd all around (more)

I mean, the highest performance A6...in Avant only? I really love the Avant body style, and think that hot Avants are REALLY cool, but not to offer a sedan? Weird.

Regarding the Tip vs. Manual, there certainly should be a choice available. It seems odd too that Audi will not offer a manual in other combos (4.2?).

Maybe if enough of us want to place an order:

I can't figure it out either. How many orders will it take for Audi to figure out this car will be in demand in the U.S.? I'd trade my 2000 4.2 in a New York minute if the S6 sedan were available even in Tip form. Really bad merchandising move on Audi's part.

Don't forget we are a small population...

of Audi buyers. I agree, I would like a sedan S6 to be offered in both Tip and 6 speed but Audi is selling to the masses not just the enthusiasts. Maybe if Audi begins selling a lot more cars in the U.S. we may get a better selection (and better service?). That's a double-edged sword though because then we lose some of the exclusivity we now enjoy.

2 Issues - emissions and differentiation

1. Each transmission type needs to be emission certified separately, so givin the volume of cars vs. the fixed cost of testing, perhaps they went with the more universal choice - that is that manual people can drive auto, but many auto people do not want a manual.

2. By doing an Avant, they have a market segment all to themselves, especially since the DAMN SUV's seem to have crested and are retreating, station wagons are going to be cool again. If you want a very cool, high performance, limited production vehicle, with some utility where else are you going to go???
