Gosh, I love those Brit car mags
Just finished reading the May issue of CAR at Brentano's (yes, sometimes I just read and sometimes I buy). They made a pretty obvious but still thoughtful observation - suspensions tend to reflect the character of the roads in a carmaker's home country. They talk about French, German, Italian, British driving conditions, and fault the A4 and A6 for having great driving characteristics outside the Audi factory but not acceptable in the U.K.
They also complain about the brakes on the A4 Mk II, saying they are either on or off. They blame it on the LHD to RHD conversion.

Well, I guess it's their language so they should be able to use it better!
Automobile mag here in the States tries to copy CAR and does an adequate job; they even recycle Jamie Kitman's articles!

I'll try because I'm having the same problem
In CAR, they seem to snub any car which is easy to drive.
Don't get me wrong, the 5-series has a great smooth ride, even with the sport suspension, but it is beyond them that someone could buy it to haul people around instead of so they can slide it around the track.

North America vs Europe and the UK
I read Car, EVO, and the rarely found Audi Owner. Car too often has more style than substance, but George Kacher in the May issue did say that the A8 series has fallen behind its competitors except for the W12 engine. EVO is mostly about cars that we can't get and are barely streetable. Most important is that the cars the Brits write about are different--sometimes slightly, sometimes signficantly--from the North American models, not to mention that motoring in the UK and in Europe is so unlike motoring in the USA and Canada.

Brit car mags-Read it Again
If you read Car regularly you will see that they do not say Audi suspsensions "are not acceptable in the UK". They say the new A4 "makes buying a 3 series a bad decission" You have to read between the lines of any car mag. In the UK most models of Audi's sold are different to the US. Most are FWD with small engines, the most popular A6 is the 1.8T!!! I don't think CAR has ever driven the model a lot of us own, a 250hp 2.7T. They say the S4 is "towering" so presumably they would rave over our 2.7T versus the 230hp model sold in Europe. I do think that CAR is so much more entertaining to read than most US mags.
