A6 4.2 5000 mile service at Anderson-Behel (long)
I scheduled my appointment about 3 weeks ago. Since then, I developed a few problems with the NAV on my car, called in to give them a heads-up.
So, Friday morning, 7:30 AM, here I am in line at the dealership. Efficient line. There's a guy who greets you, gets your name and mileage, and gives you a tag for your car. Another guy comes from the garage and drives your car in to be placed on the rack. If you don't have an appointment, you go to the side lot (mental note: ALWAYS have an appointment). My car was in the back before I got into the service office.
Short line inside (4 people deep), but there are three guys at the counter, so it went really quick. I got Bill, who seems to be a real pro. I had a printed list of what needed to happen...5000 mile service (12 quarts of Mobil One tri-synthetic 5W-30 in the front passenger area), NAV jog control, NAV won't pick up satellites anymore, program ECU unit, please don't wash the car.
Bill asked me a few questions, entered everything, firmly told me I should use dino oil until 10,000 miles and seemed to genuinely care about the my car's rings (looked me dead in the eyes). Okay, cool with me...thanks for warning me! Program the ECU...will do! Complimented me on washing my own car...says he doesn't trust anyone with his car either.
I was originally told that the appt. would take 2 hours. No, it'll be all day he said. I was about to whine and grumble, but he quickly said "I'll put you in for a rental; we'll pick up the bill. The shuttle will be here in about 5 minutes." I choked down my complaint pretty quickly.
He went over the task list with me, got my telephone numbers and pointed me to the waiting area. About 2 minutes later, here comes the Enterprise lady.
She takes me to their shop 3 blocks away, tries to sell me LDW and other stuff briefly, but more in a "you don't really want LDW, do you, but I have to ask" manner. She quickly sets me up in a 2001 Audi A6 2.8...silver with Advance interior. At 8 AM, I'm on the road, glad I didn't get the Advance interior, and pleased at the level of competency displayed so far.
I get a voice mail from Bill at 3 PM saying they've done everything, but need the NAV CD to fix the NAV. I hurriedly call to tell them the CD is in the NAV unit...HAD BETTER BE STILL IN THE CAR! Bill says he was just about to call me back, they've found it and should still have the car fixed before 6 PM. Again, VERY professional guy. Guess he's seen and heard it all, 'cause he addressed my concerns the way I would want them to be addressed.
I got to Enterprise at 5:30 PM. Checked in the car. I really should've walked instead of waiting for the shuttle back...3 blocks took 20 minutes and it was after 6 PM. I was panicked...I want my car back!
Finally, I get to Anderson-Behel...6:10 PM. There's a guy waiting for me, calls me by name. "Did Bill wait on you this morning?" I step into the cashier's office. Pick up my paperwork. Check out my baby, that everything's fixed real quick. Oops! Forgot to have my maintenance book stamped! The guy stamps it for me...first the odometer area (mistakenly), then the correct place.
Car is fixed. 4 quarts left in the box in the front passenger area (Hmmm...they put it in after all...) Windows up/down from the remote works great! 15 mph door lock works! NAV works! Car has only 8 miles extra on it. Car runs about 50 degrees cooler with the new oil (~200 instead of ~250).
Overall, I'm VERY pleased. If they keep this up, I will be buying that new TT next year and Anderson-Behel will have my business for a long time.
The rental had fewer miles on it than my car (1100 miles!), but wow, what a difference an engine makes. I would only buy a 2.8 if it had a stick. Tiptronic helps tremendously, but it's NOTHING like a 2.7T or 4.2. Also, the all black Advance interior seemed downright depressing...and made the car seem smaller inside.
The new ECU options are great! On hot days, I can now turn down the windows BEFORE getting in. I normally put the sunshades up on hot days. The rear ones require a quick walk around the car, but it's annoying to have to get back in, or use the key to put the windows up. Then, when you get back to the car, you have to put the windows down, walk around, drop the shades, get back in. Now, I can do it all from the remote. LOVE IT!
15mph auto-lock increases the safety of the car, if used properly. Just remember to ONLY unlock the doors where you have passengers, and to hit the power-lock button if you enter a bad area.
The auto unlock when the key is removed helps keep your passengers from breaking your door while trying to get out. Pull once to unlock, second time to open. Most people just pull REAL hard.
The car feels even peppier with the new oil...possibly because it's running cooler.
Oh, and they replaced the ENTIRE Nav system for me. Don't know what was wrong, but they were good enough not to take any chances.

I expect they got them as dealer buybacks.
