Default How much do you pay for insurance?

Hi all-

I'm 26, have a "clean" driving record (2 speeding tickets when I was 20), and live here in Wisconsin. My insurance carrier is USAA (who is supposed to be somewhat inexpensive, right?), but for my 2.7T, $500 deductible, 100/300, blah blah they want $2600/year.

I've been paying that, but I have a feeling that's a bit too high. Anyone have any recommendations on a more inexpensive carrier with good service?

Thanks.

We pay $786 per anum for my (possibly totaled after yesterday) 4.2. Full zoot coverage with $500 deductable. My wife and I are 36 and 37 with one child. We have a multiple car "discount" combined with a house, cabin and umbrella policies packaged together from Liberty Mutual. We live in Oregon.

Default USAA is usually about the cheapest you're going to get...

I have USAA, in California, one ticket in the last 3 years (no penalty), $500 ded, 300/500k and pay ~$1200 on a '01 4.2.
Don't know why yours is so much, single vs married sometimes makes a difference. You should call them and ask them why the rate is so high, is it location, car model, or you that is the major factor.

Car, Age, zip code, deductible, coverage, marital status, homeowners discount et. al. determine your cost for insurance. Only you can determine what is a fair cost for your insurance. Call around and get as many quotes as you can. If you own a house the first place to call is your homeowners insurance agency. There is usually a small discount if you cover both your house and car with the same agency. But again, the best thing to do is compare quotes. And one last thing, ask your friends about their experiences with various agencies. This becomes very important when you have to make a claim. Cheap insurance may not be so cheap when it comes to making a claim.

Personally, my best experience was with Farmers Insurance. They are probably not going to be the cheapest but I had to make a claim on my homeowners insurance twice and they came through with flying colors. Also, one claim on my car that I found out later that the agent wrote up as some kind of no fault where it didn't count as an accident on my insurance record. I hit someone but it was unavoidable and the agent took care of me.

I have Electric Insurance (owned by GE), they saved us a ton over Geico. I don't know if they handle WI though. Multiple discount too, 2 cars and the house.

Also, ZIP code makes a huge difference. A couple years back, we moved to a different (more rural) part of town and got a new zipcode. That cut our total insurance bill by $500.

Low rate: get married + older, good credit rating, good zip code, no claims, clean record

Default I have had USAA for the past 28 years and... (more)

Pay $544.62 ANNUALLY for my 2.7T. I carry 100/200 with 500 deduct. My total insurance cost on all my vehicles is $1843.26 annually and that covers my 55 t'bird, 56 t'bird (both show cars), 57 t'bird, 66 t'bird, 90 Subaru 4WD, 70 GMC pick up, and the Audi. I'd say you need to get married and get older or something. That bill is definitely wrong. Since you have USAA, try AFI (Armed Forces Insurance). I dropped USAA for my home and went with AFI, added earthquake and it was $250 annually cheaper than USAA without the earthquake insurance. I'd go with AFI for my cars too except they do not cover classics for a reasonable price. Therefore USAA was the winner for my/our cars. I think my car insurance is low cause I have not had a claim since 1973, have multiple vehicles and only two drivers on the policy. I do not carry Underinsured motorist property damage. Get comparison quotes and call USAA and they may dicker... Otherwise, I think you are getting screwed... Just my two cents... Oh yeah, add a CX500 Deluxe motorcycle in that group also (forgot, I never drive it). My discounts are "fewer operators than vehicles, low annual mileage, multi-car discount, anti-theft and daytime running lights (Audi only). Total discounts adds up to $391.82 every six months. The Audi alone has a discount of: 5.91 (anti-theft), 5.35 (daytime running lights), 9.82 (fewer operators than vehicles), 51.40 (low annual mileage), 68.54 (multi-car discount)".

Guess it pays to be old once in a while...

Default Usaa does not cover classics, they contract that out.

If you have your t-birds covered under your USAA policy, you will not get full payoff for a loss. They will only give you an amount that they think it's worth. I know that they have another company they use for "classic" insurance, but I don't think they are as competitive as companies that specialize in that type of coverage, such as Hagarty Classic insurance, who issue the policy for a pre-agreed value.

Default $1600/year for two late model cars w/100 deductible...

2001 A6 and 1999 Accord V6 Coupe. We use Erie insurance and have selected the PA "limited tort" option.
