Default 2001 A6 vs 2002 A6

I just ordered a 2001 A6 from the dealer based on no real changes being made to the
2002 model (according to the saleswoman). After reviewing the current article (A6 gets a facelift) dated April 19, 2001 on the Audiworld.com home page, it seems that the whole car has been redesigned.
I assume the article is talking about the 2002 model, although it never states 2002.
There are some inconsistancies in the article if it is talking about the 2002, specifically,
it states the new 2.7T is now boosted to 250BHP which it already has?

Can anyone tell me absolutely, what model are they talking about?

The article you saw was talking about the European model. It gets a 15hp boost

Default The Audi press-release on the "face-lifted" A6 contains info based on the

European models. There, the 2.7T engine currently puts out 230 hp with 228 lb/ft of torque. One of the few instances were the USA gets a "hotter" version than der fatherland. Take a look at some of the engines listed...you'll never see that extensive a engine line-up here!

They are reviewing the European launch of what we will get as the 2002 A6. The European 2.7t only had 230 hp before, while we always have had the 250hp. The US spec cars will have different options/trim levels to Euro spec cars and not neccessarily all the features mentioned in the article. But if you are just ordering you should consider waiting for the 2002 -I would!!

Default Re: I would recommend you wait for the 2002. Especially because of the

updates to dampen the noise level in the car. They are adding thicker glass and additional sound profing materials as well as better seals around the doors and windows.

Order sheets should be available by July for the 2002 models.

Default Consider this

If you get a 2002 A6, you'll be doing the R&D on the car that Audi couldn't get around to.

Ask the folks who had the first-gen 4.2 how much fun it is to get a first-year car.

Default Re: phred, Audi is not redesigning the complete car. the 2002

is just a freshing up of the A6 model.

They're taking care of things that should have been right from the start.

Thanks.

Default yeah, like putting the Symphony in in 1999

And we know how well that worked. My 2000 still didn't work right.

I have to with phred, there is some risk to getting the newly redesigned one.

On balance, I'd probably wait, even if just to bottom out the prices on the 2001s.

Default As the others have said, the article refers to the Euro version, yet...

it is likely most of these changes (esp cosmetic) will also apply to US models.
As far as whether you should wait, that depends on which model you are considering, what kind of deal you currently have, how soon do you need a new car, and do you like the new changes.

Unlike many others, the changes don't seem very significant to me unless the suspension changes really produce a significant improvement or you are planning on getting the 2.8. I would wait for the new 3.0. The 2.7T and 4.2 are little changed.
If you have a great deal now, you are unlikely to get such a great deal until this time next year.
If you want the '02, you will probably have to wait until at least September to pick up one of the first delivered here.
Visually, the new front end for the 3.0 and 2.7T is a great improvement (being more like the beauty-ous 4.2). I like the current *** of the car better than the new (at least in pictures), others may have a different opinion. Inside is minimally changed except for the addition of those unnecessary and distracting chrome rings on the steering wheel and dash gauges (this is not a Cadillac!). Otherwise, I'm pleasantly underwhelmed with the changes which is nice since I love the interior of the current car.
I don't know if the US is getting thicker, quieter glass. I'd settle for optically correct front and rear windshields.
One other benefit to waiting is that for the additional money (less sweet deal) on the '02 you can have a car a couple to few months later but have a car that is technically an entire year newer which is offset a bit when you sell it it will be worth a bit more.

Overall would I wait?
If purchasing 2.8---yes, definitely unless power is of no importance.
If 2.7T---maybe, if the new look front end is worth the extra money and the suspension upgrades are truly effective.
If 4.2---least likely, only if the suspension is much better than the current sport suspension or if they shaved 200 pounds off its portly ***

Good luck, nice position to be in anyway. Have fun choosing.
