Default Wheel locks vs break in damage

I am getting replacement wheels for the 17" BBS RCs that were stolen and am wondering if wheel locks would be of any benefit. The other car that was a victim had a bunch of damage to the trunk where the thieves tried to pry it open to get the key for the wheels.

So what is the opinions out there? I could drive home with damage to the trunk but if they got the wheels...I would be stuck. I don't know...

Default Get some ugly wheels ;)

Tough decision. I've opted against locks for the reason you state although I had them on my Integra after my wheels were ripped off. Even with the locks an experienced and determined thief can get your wheels, plus it's a real pain in the *** when you bring your car in to get new tires and the tire store and I both forget about the key when leaving and I get a flat 100 miles away and have no key! (true, yet boring story)

Default I had a bad experience with wheel locks on my Miata

One of them sheared and I just couldn't get the sucker off, which was a problem because I was trying to change a flat!

The manufacturer (I believe McGard) had to ship a special tool to the stealership service dept. to get that booger off. So, since Murphy's Law can never be repealed, assume that the thieves already have all the key variants, and that when you really need to (dark and stormy night, etc.) you will NOT be able to remove the lock.

Sorry to cheer you up

Default "kind" theives...

I had the wheels stolen from my XR-7 years ago. They broke into the car, got the key out of the glove box, then relocked the car without leaving a so much as a scuff mark!
