Default One more question on change from sport to standard springs....

After much consideration, research, and a drive in a new 4.2 w/standard susp. and same tires as mine, I've decided to go ahead and switch from sport to standard springs. I'm wondering if there's any chance I'll get undesirable results from the standard spring/sport shock combo. I'm always leery when combining components which weren't designed to work together. If I ought to change shocks, too, I want to do it when I do the springs. My guess is that this combo will likely be a nice compromise between standard and sport. Any thoughts?

I was impressed with the standard suspension car. I thought it still felt European and handled very well with a feeling of control fairly similar to mine. It wasn't nearly so jarring, though. I believe that the hard knocks from the sport susp. are partly to blame for the many creaks and rattles in my interior. I'll be glad to have them calmed by the smoother ride.

Of course you will...if you don't like sport shocks, you shouldn't like sport anything...get a live and drive a caddy!!

Default Are your tire pressures set correctly? If so did you try lowering them 2 psi? I seriously

doubt that the creaks and rattles in the interior are due to the suspension. My 4.2 w/sport has none.

Default I tried different tire pressures.

I seem to have a creak-prone dash which is gradually getting worse. The stiff ride may not be the cause but it does emphasize the problem. I'm going to have the dealer work more on the creaks and rattles next week.

Default Oh, c'mon... So why doesn't Audi make all their cars with sport susp.?

Some of us don't race our cars around all the time and prefer a nice ride. That doesn't mean we're lesser drivers. Some day you'll be emabarrassed when an old fart in a smooth riding car blows your doors off because he (or she) is a more skillful driver. There is lots of fun to be had with cars which don't generate huge cornering forces. Have you ever driven an E-type Jag? The ride is exceptionally smooth and the handling is wonderful even though cornering forces are low by today's standards. There's a lot more to handling and driving fun than g-forces and lack of body roll. Speaking of Caddys, I can remember some great fun skillfully sliding a '73 DeVille around. Amongst some hard-core enthusiasts there seems to be an attitude that you're just not cool if your car isn't low and stiff. The boy-racers in their slammed Hondas come to mind.

I don't often explore the handling limits of my car. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy driving a highly competent German car. Please don't insult me because my priorities are different than yours.

Default Maybe we can make a deal.....

First I want to spend some time on the standard springs and make sure I prefer them. Then, before I part with the old springs I need to consider whether or not I'll need to put them back in at the end of the lease. I doubt that the leasing co. would know the difference but I don't want to screw some future owner.
