K&N Filters for 4.2
Does anyone know the part number for the appropriate K&N replacement filter for a 2000 A6 4.2 Quattro?
Far from a mechanic, I was wondering if anyone had performed said mod and could give me an idea of the effort involved.

Lltek has a cone type K&N that comes with an air duct, I put it in in about a 1/2 hour, involves a drill. I do believe there is a straight K&N replacement for stock. If you are not mechanically inclined opening the airbox is a bit of a pain.
End result; the car is breathing better,(alleged) marginal performance increase. You can hear the less restricted air in the higher RPMS.

how much performance gain? or extra fuel use?
if it breathes better, does the fuel burn more efficiently or just burn more? how much performance gain are we talking about? the 4.2 already has 300hp. a 10hp gain is like 3%... i m not sure if torque is better. does it rev easier? do they make one that just replace the exisiting filter and no need to mod the box?
