Default Silver '00 2.7, bumpers look darker than body work...

I've been lurking daily for months, learning so much about Audi's. I believe reading the board daily has made me want an Audi even more... as opposed to the S80 board - there's some bad voodoo over there...

I'm seriously considering a silver '00 2.7T but I was spooked tonight...I would swear the front and rear bumpers are noticeably different color of silver than the body panels. Just a shade darker. New cars on the lot don't seem to look this way. I realize there will be color variation between materials over time, but this noticeable enough to give me second thoughts. Is this common? How likely is it that the car has had bodywork? Also, does anyone have the solar cell/blower option? Does it work well? The car has all options except sport package, and the dealer is asking 34.5, 19,000 miles. Thanks in advance.

Default There is a slight difference in angle between the body and bumper. You ABS most likely has a

demonstrator tool to illustrate this ( your concerns come up often ). It's just two pieces of identical silver panels and a jig that allows you to change the angle by a few degrees in relation to one another.

Rarely is there a mismatch, but I have seen it a few times - mostly on pearl white or silver.

Default That's normal as he bumpers are some sort of plastic whereas

the car is (some sort of) metal and although the exact same colour paint is used, it seems to react differently as to what material the base is. The difference on silver and other light colour cars is more pronounced than for darker car

Default Silver is one of the hardest colors to produce.

Even if the color match is perfect, the slightest difference in surface texture and/or angle will affect the appearance.

Nobody does silver better than Germans, but I must confess that the bumper-to-body alignment in the A6 is not what it could be. (Better than my old 1982 Buick Skyhawk T-Type, which was several shades of floppy silver plastic.)

I went with black rather than silver for this reason.

I agree -I love Silver, but it is one of the reasons I did not go for this color

Default I've Only Seen Silver with Black Interior and Dark Wood

I don't really like the dark wood chocies on the A6. I love the look of the Silver car, but wanted lighter wood. I went with Ming Blue, and got Melange Leather and Sycamore (light colored and very grainy) wood. I love it!

That's my 2 cents...

You could get the light wood in a silver '00. Just needed to get the blue interior.

Default Re: I have a '00 Silver 2.7T... (Kinda long...)

With the Warm Weather Package which includes the Solar Sunroof. The bumpers have no variation in color, and the only complaint is that the soft paint on the front bumper.

As for the Solar Roof, I love it. Then again, I don't mind the solid roof as compared to the moonroof. You should also have the side sunshades for the rear passengers, and a power rear sunshade. To be honest, I don't use the side shades much, but the blower, I could not live without in a car with a black interior.

It really depends on whether you will need it where you live. I live in the SF East Bay Area, and this last summer had some pretty hot days, but the interior only exceeded the ambient temp by very little, with the exception of the surfaces of the seats exposed to that sun (ouch!). All in all I think it was a well worth while option for me.

Good luck!

One more good reason to give the 4.2 to your wife and keep the S6 for yourself!
