Default will S4 or A6 2.7T tip hold up and not die?

Hello...
if i did:
S4 stage 2 ECU chip
downpipes with highflow cats (so that i can pass emissions)
3" cat-back
Tip Chip

will the Tiptronic tranny hold up?

Default Hmmm.... I think you pay your money and take your chances.

There are many chipped cars here. Driving style and other factors will determine longevity.

Default Not enough info/history to conclude yet.

I think we have some evidence from this and the S4 list that chipped cars are OK at roughly the 35000 mile mark. It's hard to tell what the chip will do, but you should assume any warranty is void (it may not be -- but assume it is for purposes of your decision).

Perhaps AudiWorld should create a forum specifically for Chippers and Wannabe Chippers where we can aggregate experiences from people who have done this mod to the 2.7 and 1.8.

Default Question would be - how will you drive it?

Normal driving with just a bit of a heavy foot... or will you be going all out drag racing, doing boost launches. The latter probably able to do damage to the tranny even without the added power if done enough times. With only downpipes and highflow exhaust and I am assuming an intake that can match the flow of the exhuast your first problem may be boost control, not the tranny. Having said that are you sure you want to try and get such a heavy car to move so fast. I use both GIAC chips in my A6 2.7T and love them but I really can't see spending much more on trying to get this tub moving. Want to go fast for much cheaper with similar mods - get a WRX. I am.

I agree. Better to reduce weight . Make tranny last even longer

Default As a phyicist I can't see how reducing weight will help.

Torque is torque. Reducing weight will cause the same torque to accelerate the car faster but it won't reduce the stress on the tranny. Now if you use less power because the car is lighter and you are satisfied with less than full power, that might make a difference.

I ended up doing what GIACUser suggested: Got a WRX Wagon "for the wife". Drives like a Go kart, and is a lot of fun, (for a lot less that an A4.)

Default Perhaps time and heat will play into the equation of reduced weight...

As you said a lighter car will accelerate faster, indicating it will take less time to attain a desired speed. This decreases the amount of time maximum torque is being applied, decreasing the heat generated. Heat is one of the biggest enemies of the tranny.... Just a thought, perhaps a flawed one.
