And, a weird find: 4.2 Avant.. notice dimunitive passenger mirror
<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/4902/a6990009.jpg"></center><p>i don't remember where i got this. but here it is, a 4.2 avant. the asymmetrical mirror is supposed to be pre-2000 models. the lower black moldings and euro plate also says it's euro. obviously it was never available in da usa.

It's chiefly because in Europe you don't have so many bovine brain-dead left lane hoggers as you get in the States: people know to move to the right.
The folding mirror argument fails because the smaller mirror would be against the sidewalk, not against traffic.

This would be my guess as well...
In three years of living in France, I cannot remember how many full-size right mirrors I saw clipped off in city/village traffic by hitting the mirrors of parked cars, or how many times I was saved by being an inch narrower on that side myself.

and you don't have bicyclists and such?
It isn't as if you wouldn' t need a right hand mirror if people didn't pass on the right. It is used for many other things.
In some European countries, they don't even have lane markers, let alone prohibitions against passing on the right. If you can fit between two cars (or a car and the curb) there you can pass.
