Cell phone and battery

The plug-in cigarrette adapters I've tried have been left plugged for 2 days+ without causing any bad surprise (without the phone, of course).
If you drive the car daily, or even weekly it shouldn't be a problem. Because the capacity of the lead acid battery in your car is very large compared to the draw of a cell phone.
For example: I use a hands free kit that plugs into my cig lighter. If I leave the HFK plugged into the lighter the light comes on the HFK to indicate that it is receiving power but there is no drain on the battery if the actual phone is not connected to the HFK.
Exception to this is if the HFK is designed to charge an extra battery while the phone is not being charged or if there is a short in the HFK.
After all the if the cig. lighter is hot wired (always on) and it does not cause a draw on the battery then the HFK should not cause a draw unless the phone is actually plugged into the HFK.
Bottom line is there needs to be a some sort of current draw in order to cause the car battery to loose its charge faster than normal.
In my 98 Volvo T-5 wagon that I used to own I had to have the dealer hot wire the cig. lighter outlet so that I could leave my phone charging while the car was not turned on.
I was in outside sales at the time and was on the phone alot and in and out of the car all day. I would need the phone to charge while I was inbetween meetings.
Hope this is helpful.
