2000 A6 2.7T Used Price?? Please help.
Hi all,
I just found a very nice Ming, 2.7T - 6-speed, 30K miles, loaded:
Phone, navigation, cold weather, sport package with upgrades.....H&K exhaust, new "short throw" gear box (don't know what it is), chipped and a set of new blizzack's & continental's.
Price: $36,600

The short throw gear box you wrote about is one of the short shifter kits that you can attach to the shift linkage, a couple of hundred dollars. I would guess that $30,000 would be about right. You can probably buy a new 2.7t for around $40,000, they are often heavily discounted. Anywhere from $1500 over invoice to a little below invoice, as we start seeing the 2002s coming out, for a 2001 2.7t.

Coming off a 24 mos 15k/year lease, the residual on a leased car should be about 65% of MSRP.

Accordingly, your factory listed options could add as much as $3500 to the private party base price of $27911 that they have listed for the base 2000 A6 2.7T for sale by a private party. While I don't like the idea of a $10K depreciation loss in the first year (or first few minutes off the lot), that has been the experience of those who have had to sell a nearly new car. % wise that is only 20 to 25%. Spend some time with a Blue Book or the used car pages of your paper to convince yourself.
As a buyer, I'd certainly expect that kind of savings even if the local dealerships are trying to get more.

Better to buy stock and mod yourself?
I would have concerns about the possible (ab)use of the vehicle with those mods. There may be a very good reason for the sale (stock market crash, etc.) but I would actually consider all of these mods to be a discount from the sale price -- or maybe a wash, with risk offsetting the cost of the mods.

I've checked the web and what I found...
was that Edmunds has it priced at $36,980. What I did not mention previously is that this car is audi assured w/warranty to 100K.
Do you think that it makes it more attractive?
