to chip or not??
I am very nervous that i may screw up a great thing by chipping my car.
Has anyone that has chipped regretted doing so? I am willing to assume reasonable risk and I am also very anxious to get the performance boost.
Any opinions or experiences would be very much appreciated.
Is your dealer chip friendly ? If not, they can tell if you have tamperd with the ecu, pretty much no matter what other precautions you take - switches, swapping ecus, etc.
Is there a reason you need switchability ( i've heard that it turns off fault codes - may no longer be the case ) ?
If your tech has questions about the mods made or something major happens mechanically, does your tuner have a good informal working relationship with AoA ?
Are you OK with the worst case of having to pay for the turbos out of pocket - I'm not saying this will happen, just bringing it up - ?
If you have answered these questions to your satisfaction, go ahead.
The local S4 owners that I know (all VERY hard-core w/chips, down-pipes, exhausts, etc.) also seem to belong to the "chip of the month" club and have experience with two or more "chips"...ah, if only I had their money...

Are all the variables properly remapped - some chips give you a lot of boost in one scenario and then vanish at slightly different conditions - this because programming is patched in at the easiest break-in points with regards to the manufacturer programming. This is quick and dirty.
Best bet is to consider the German TUV approved brands. This like ISO for aftermarket car parts. Instead of having to rely on testimonials, you have an professional independent assesment that verifies manufacturer claims and has minimum standards for reliability.
