Bose speaker specs????
1 - front speakers are 4" or 5 1/4" ?? How easily can 5 1/4" speakers be mounted in the front without cutting the door?
2 - Rear speakers are 5 1/4" or 6 1/2" ?? How easily can 6 1/2inch speakers be mounted in the rear without cutting the door?
3 - The Bose amp has 4 line inputs and it feeds all the speakers in the vehicle. Does this include the subwoofer? No additional amp input for the sub? Can we assume that the Bose amp takes some kind of composite signal from the 4 inputs used for Front/rear and sends the factory sub its signal?
4 - What are the input line level voltage specs on the Bose amp?
Thanks.
1. Complete replacement of all components including head/amps and speakers.
2. Add a subwoofer.
Bose uses completely proprietary components (has to do with the ohm ratings).
I researched this pretty heavily.
The install shop found a line level output at the connector for the stock sub, and tapped into it there for my amp. The stock sub has a small amp attached, or near it I think. I was not there for the install, but the tech said that there was line level back there somplace.
Please remmeber this is all second hand. If I wanted to pull apart my install to see how they got signal out, I could. But I would prefer not to.
The nice folks at Jensen have "donated" one of thier competition "1 ohm stable" amps and a single 12" sub, which I am going to have install next month into a single 12 enclosure.
2. Thus, you can add amps and speakers while keeping the stock head unit.
3. Precision Car Stereo in Mountain View CA installs a new pre out section to give it a bit more gain and better sound. Not sure if this is necessary for enough gain or not. They've done many, referred by Carlsen Audi.
IMHO the Bose with a sub sounds pretty good. the stock Bose system does a good job all the way from the top down to the middle of the mid. After that it is pathetic. Adding the sub, and making it cross over a little higher than normal seemed to fill in the rest.
It is not a LOUD as I would like, but sounds pretty good, and is a nice option for those who leased
He hooked me up with the director of engineering for Crutchfield, the catalog, to see if they had something that they knew would fit the Prelude. He said no, and also said that car companies are making it tougher do.
The only way to do it on the Prelude, was to have a good installer fabricate something.
