L.A. to San Jose in 4 hrs 40 Min.! (longish)
Left Sunday at 4 PM from San Jose. One stop for gas then on the road about 4:15. One pit stop on the road. About 340 miles, arrived at 9:23 including the obligatory stop and go on the grapevine because of an accident. According to the Nav I lost 15 minutes then picked up seven. 3/4 tank of gas.
Return trip started from Glendale Monday mid-afternoon. 4 hours 40 minutes to home. Average speed for the entire trip: 66 mph. Average mpg: 21.9 Total miles: 677. Average cruise speed on I-5: 80-90 going South, 85-95 going North. Top speed attained: 115 mph. Fun cars that I tracked with: C36 AMG Merc; BMW 740i. Cars I blew off: Current model MR-2 could never catch up on level, lost him totally in the mountains; Neon running flat-out, let him jack-rabbit for a while then put him out of his misery. Funniest blow-off: Coming out of a rest area accellerated quickly and went past a white late model Cougar. He apparently was upset he got passed so bad so he ran up my bumper. Very noticeable on I-5 as people generally leave a reasonable amount of space. Let him track me through some traffic then I squirted to some space in the next lane and left him wondering what happened. He didn't even try to keep up.
Best part of the trip: Put everything out of my mind except for the driving. Best features of the car: The engine, the engine, and the Xenon lights. Also the CD Changer! The stability. The ride! Least favorite: Though the sport seat is now broken in, the lumbar support was not perfect.
Would I do it again? YEP! The car was BORN for that type of ride!
