Default L.A. to San Jose in 4 hrs 40 Min.! (longish)

Don't feel much like flying these days, so with the CD Changer installed it was time for a run down to El Segundo (right by LAX) for some sales calls with one of my reps. 101S to I-5 to 405.
Left Sunday at 4 PM from San Jose. One stop for gas then on the road about 4:15. One pit stop on the road. About 340 miles, arrived at 9:23 including the obligatory stop and go on the grapevine because of an accident. According to the Nav I lost 15 minutes then picked up seven. 3/4 tank of gas.
Return trip started from Glendale Monday mid-afternoon. 4 hours 40 minutes to home. Average speed for the entire trip: 66 mph. Average mpg: 21.9 Total miles: 677. Average cruise speed on I-5: 80-90 going South, 85-95 going North. Top speed attained: 115 mph. Fun cars that I tracked with: C36 AMG Merc; BMW 740i. Cars I blew off: Current model MR-2 could never catch up on level, lost him totally in the mountains; Neon running flat-out, let him jack-rabbit for a while then put him out of his misery. Funniest blow-off: Coming out of a rest area accellerated quickly and went past a white late model Cougar. He apparently was upset he got passed so bad so he ran up my bumper. Very noticeable on I-5 as people generally leave a reasonable amount of space. Let him track me through some traffic then I squirted to some space in the next lane and left him wondering what happened. He didn't even try to keep up.
Best part of the trip: Put everything out of my mind except for the driving. Best features of the car: The engine, the engine, and the Xenon lights. Also the CD Changer! The stability. The ride! Least favorite: Though the sport seat is now broken in, the lumbar support was not perfect.
Would I do it again? YEP! The car was BORN for that type of ride!

Default East Bay to L.A. in 4 hrs 30 Min.! (plus some...)

Man, I wish I'd done the run at night. I left Castro Valley for Long Beach at 10:00am on a Saturday. I-580 to I-5 and points south. No stops until the L.A. traffic got so bad that I ground to a halt at 2:28pm with 347.2 miles on the trip meter. Average 78mph. Took another 1.5 hours to get to Long Beach for a total of 378 miles on one tank (18.629 gal and 20.3mpg). Really got to appreciate the Tip in full-auto mode for the stop-and-go stuff. April, now I know why you got out!

Default Love those rides in the 4.2...

In two weeks, I'm doing my yearly run after visiting a client in Woodland. Gonna hang a left at Sacto and head for Tahoe/gamble overnight. Next day, over the Kingsbury grade down to 395, south to 120, haul *** over Tioga, through Yosemite to the 41, and home to Fresburg. Nastiest ride to date was years ago in my 92 Vette. Typical Fresno fog in Winter. Partner and I had to beat it to Watsonville to deal with a strawberry worker strike. 1hr 24min from Fresno using Nees Ave. to cross the Valley. Partner, usually a talkative New Yorker, never said a word--froze up on both ends. Love 5-line fog: no bears in the air.

Default 4h 15m back in '92

Sunnyvale/Saratoga and Remington to Sepulveda and Manchester. It was a Monday afternoon or something and there was no traffic on I-5. I used to make that drive 8 -10 times a year in college. Harris Ranch...I can almost smell it now.

Default Just did Buttonwillow to Los Altos in 3 hours with a stop for gas

I was averaging 80 when held up with 80-115mph punches between the trucks. Not too bad loaded down with track stuff. I was in a rush to get back to civilization and some real weather.

Default Okay, I have no idea how long it took to get to Salinas from Oakland...how about this:

Home to Work (0.65 miles) in 55 minutes...I occasionally get distracted as I like to warm the engine up.............

P.S. We went on down to Salinas very quickly.
