AUTOMOBILE mag (Oct) says about W8 ....

"The Passat W8 is an awfully nice car, and it's exclusive ... but we believe Piech's thinking is a bit awry. This engine would make far more sense in an Audi A6 than in a Passat."

why ? we already have a 300 hp V8

It's basically an orphan engine...

...or a test bed for derivative designs (W12, W4). It does not seem to have any compelling advantages over the current V8, except maybe shorter packaging.

Maybe they should jam it in the TT, put the headlights on the other end of the car, and call it a Porsche.

With the 265hp Maxima and Big Toyota Avalon, and US large v6 and v8s, I think the vw W8 makes sense

It makes great sense. Next gen Passat to be based on Golf 5 platform. Transverse engines only.

Ahh, but with those cars and W8 Passat, does Audi still make sense?

Everything is pushing up-market at the same time. I would be a bit confused if I was an Infiniti or Lexus buyer and I saw the stuff being sold as Nissans and (to a lesser extent) Toyotas. The Altima is downright gorgeous, and it has a 240HP V6!!!
