First yesterday, I kill my DirecPC internet connection since I have had it 30 days and approximately 7 of those days it was virtually non-functional (5 minute page loads), ~7-8 of those days it was borderline (similar to dial-up), and ~15 days were pretty damn good (super-fast and I could view LMGotts4.2 pics in about 1-2 seconds vs 3 minutes with AOL). Of course, Earthlink suddenly claimed there was no 30 day money back guarantee...that it originated from the day I ordered it (45 days before it was installed!) so I was **** outta luck. Discover took my side and disputed the charge and gave me my money back. This is a class-action lawsuit waiting to happen...releasing technology before it's ready and charging a heap o' jack for it.
Then today at work the server got zapped by something...no AW all day!
Then tonight just as I was getting on to lame-O AOL...zap...there goes my new ViewSonic 19" flat-screen...toast...no power.
Good news...ViewSonic is awesome and a new one will be in the mail tomorrow to arrive Monday...got a person on the phone on the first ring unlike the 95 minutes on hold with Earthlink!!!
There are still some good companies out there.
Now I'm stuck again with dial-up for the next month until I get home access to a T1 line...things will again be sweet

Don't buy DirecPC (esp from Earthlink) unless it is your only option...it's only good 50-60% of the time.

 

The gov't should be giving you some sort of extra-special-secret-agent-high-speed-line shouldn't they? I actually res'd the pic of the EuropA6 down today 'cause I felt bad for you techno-laggards (my business partners surprised me with a new 22" Cinema Display (LCD) for my killer Mac at work, trying to keep me there more hours I think). T1 will fix you up! Get a dish installed on your car, then you can have access everyplace you go (and if you sleep on the dash everything will be splendid (regrets to your wife)). Using an old 9" backup monitor now?

I actually wondered if you were working for a change today.....

It's been a tad better the last couple of months, but lots of busy signals on dialups, lots of dropped dialup connections, lots of apparently dropped connections between their POPs and their network, etc. Not lots of customer service.

 

Almost no hang-ups or busies, 18 second connect times, usually 3-8 seconds for a page, and downloads about as fast as any I've heard of with a 56K modem.

 

Agreed on AT&T. Best for people who travel as it is the easiest to change to local access #

 

I would buy a 3rd part extended warranty on that thing.

 

Tried to see if the ViewSonic lady would let me upgrade to a 21", but that was only if the monitor was out of warranty...was gonna tell the wife when the 21" came, "Uh, I dunno why they sent this, I guess it was a free upgrade" Oh well, will be stuck with a 19"...really makes my POS 17" with the lame-O motherboard based video card at work really seem horrible.

 

Time to get an Apple. Flat screen and double 800 G4 ( no more Cube:-(

I'm switching to Apples (used those in high school--those IIe's were sweet! My computer is pretty sweet, just the internet access and now, monitor suck.
You'd think living 45 miles from SanFrancisco, cable modems or DSL would be available...NOPE...nothing...WTF???
