Default Problems with punctured tires?

My Ming Blue Bomber suffered a 3 inch long screw puncture in the left front Conti. No blow out but a not so slow leak. At the tire store, they said they've seen 3-4 times more punctures in the past few months than normal. Anyone else so afflicted?

Just 2 years ago in a previous car life, I suffered a damaged windshield from road debris, and it's been many many years since getting a puncture. I'm real careful where I park, but construction trucks drop stuff everywhere.

BTW, been busy so not on much lately. Hope all is well, and I'm really angry about what's happened in the attacks here in the US. We must be vigilent and not let our guard down.

Default Hey...

How many miles you got on your ride? And has your fuel economy improved? I just turned 2,500 miles and I am averaging 19 mpg with mostly city driving. My car feels a little quicker too.

Default I've had 3 flats in almost 10 months with the 4.2...I think the Contis are magnets...

for screws and nails. All repaired...work fine, even at 133.1 mph...if they blow, I'll be meeting my maker...but pretty soon I'm getting a new set. 17k and probably only 5k or so left in 'em.

Default I drove for about 2 miles after a blowout without noticing it

thanks to Quattro. I wish these cars had an air pressure monitoring system built-in. I know I heard a loud ripping noise, but then went to the gas station...filled up and was on my way back home when someone said "Your back tire is reeeeeeeeeeally flat!" Fortunately, I was 100 feet away from a mechanic's shop...

Default Basically the same opinion. The Northeast has enough construction going on that...

there's debris all over the place. Switched the Contis at 24k for a set of Michelins. Run them for more than 5k with no problems. Haven't checked the treadwear ratings between the 2 brands, but the Michelins look and feel more hearty. Also opted up to the 17" wheel, so that's making a big difference in the handling.

Default went 18 months with Contis, no problems

I have Pirellis on right now though. I've picked up at least two screws with each set of tires I've ever owned. Only have ever had one puncture though. The rest were at the shoulder of the tread where it is deep enough that you don't get to the core with most screws.

Default Re: Hey...

I've got about 2700, as I lucked out with my new job and I work close to home. Since I opted for 15K/year, I'm planning on a cross country trip sometime in the not too distant future. Of course, if I transfer, I could have a longer commute. So I'd better take the vacation sooner than later!

Gas mileage still bites, but I really put my foot in it and don't try to conserve. Really happy with the power of the car, it is plenty for my local roads. I'd just get speeding tickets with anything faster (which I used to get with my former 0-60 6.5 car). I may want to change tires though, maybe 17 in Parellis or somthing like that. But that's later. Hope you're having fun!

Default What sort of Pirellis? At the one year point, I may splurge and get new wheels

Likely 17 inch, something more performance oriented than the standard Contis. The Contis are nice for a smooth, cushy ride, and I'm thinking excellent in the snow...but I wouldn't mind a tad more road feel.
