Can an Allroad be made to handle almost as well as a regular A6
A friend has one and it handles quite well. That is, it grips well and doesn't body roll much. I understand it feels heavy though.
The lowest setting is as low (or very close) to the A6 w/o sport suspension. And I usually drive in the lowest setting at all times.
It grips well... it seems like it has a plush ride at first, but when you take a corner at speed, the body roll is lower than you'd expect.
I think that it handles as good as a standard A6, but there are really no mods for it. I asked the question about perhaps modifying the level sensors or computer to drop the lowest setting on the allroad another inch, purely for cosmetic reasons, but thus far no quick fixes for that. There is an upgrade from Germany (very expensive) that drops the suspension 20mm more in the lowest setting, but none of us has seen this option yet.
The problem is that the lowest suspension (ironically), seems to be the "softest" setting while the highest suspension setting (only avail when travelling less than 20MPH) is the stiffest. Seems backwards I know, but think about it... our cars are riding on thick rubber ballons... more air, the stiffer it gets... less air, the softer, more mushy the ballon.
Anyhow, in any setting, it handles really really well considering it's an off road capable large station wagon. The 17" tires are quite fat and it handles better than anyone would imagine.
