I have a noise on the freeway (oer 50 mph and gets worse the faster I go)that the only way I can describe is it is a very quiet version of driving next to a big 4X4. The noise their tires make. Took to dealer they said bad tire, changed it, but the noise is still there.

Default Do you have any sort of vibration in the floor, pedals, seat or steering wheel? Does the car .......

feel as smooth as when it was new?

Default I would still suspect a bad tire and keep checking them -

Many on the forum, and my Dad who's not, have had out-of-round Conti's. I believe some even have had replacement tires that are also out-of-round. Replacing one may not have eliminated all your problem tires. I'd keep checking.

Default In addition to your tires . . .

it could also be the driveline whine that our cars have. If you are not used to the sound it will be noticeable. After a few months it will not be noticed. Remember too that road surfaces will exacerbate or dampen speed related noises (tires/driveline).

If you are traveling on concrete frequently it will be much louder. If you have have the stock A/S tires I doubt it is the tires. Most A/S tires are relatively quiet. The driveline noise varies with load, speed, terrain/road. As I said, most people will not even notice the noise but even if you do eventually it becomes white noise. I don't notice it anymore unless I specifically pay attention.

Hope this helps.

Well it is new. 2002 A6 2.7 TIP, 550 miles. And the vibration I do feel in the floor. As far as BrianN MA comment about the drive line noise, is this different that my prior '97 A4 or 01 TT? Both were quattro and my TT was unbelievably smooth. It really was incredable. This car is not anywhere near as smooth. The TT obviously was a 6sp. Is it the transmission.

Default I did not notice the same driveline whine in a TT . . .

when driving the TT quattro. I just signed it off to the fact that the interior was not as quiet which made it harder to hear. The last time I drove an A4 was too long ago to remember honestly. When I said our cars, I should have said "my" car.

Stu B may be referring to a much more sinister problem. I'll let him get into that.

Default Re: Give the car some time & more miles. I noticed similar sounds, but @ 1700 miles, I don't...

hear them any more. All this quattro drivetrain needs a lot of time to get fully broke in. Some guys say up to 5000 miles before everything meshes and you get a noticeable improvement in gas mileage!
If you feel a vibration, that is different from harmonics. Any vibration should be reported to the dealship and investigated. All tires are not round. The dot on the side of the tire represents the heaviest spot. The dot inside your wheel represents the heaviest spot. These should be opposite of each other, but are not always mounted correctly. Any kid at any factory can make a mistake. Investigate any vibration!
Good Luck and let us know.

Thanks for the feedback. Tell me about the resonator removed from your car? Performance? Sound? ...
