A6 4.2 Officially ordered---kind of
Spent two hours at the Exchange in Highland Pk Il.. After re-reviewing the color advices this AM, I had a heart to heart with Chick, my sales guy. He asked if there was any color out there that I was in love with to the tune of $1700, since I was leasing the car and special paint wouldn't add a dime in residual value.
I love the way the car drives. I love the dash--I had to have the platinum interior. I didn't have a $1700 love affair with any color. So here's how I left it. The order gets punched in on Monday. It'll be a loaded 4.2 with a platinum interior.
If,as I've been led to believe in the forum, I can get any worldwide A6 color for $500, if not offered in the US--my choice will be EBONY PEARL, which is a UK color. If they want to hit me with a $1700 tariff for EBONY--I'll go with LIGHT SILVER. They delivered one today (2.7T/Ebony interior) and I loved it again.

I gave up long ago on special paints
The one opinion that I have always voiced is that I gave up on special paints a long time ago. They look wonderful, yes. But if any mishap ever occurs, and you need to get some repaint work, forget it. These paints never, ever look right again after a repair is effected. You would have to repaint the whole car to get a full match, and no insurance is likely to pay for that. The pearl effect paints are certainly the most difficult.

They do. Apparently--no confirmed as yet--if there is color offered in the line (for me, an A6)outside of the US, such as Ebony Pearl, offered in the UK, the tariff is $500. If I chose a color not offered ANYWHERE on an A6, such as Moro Blue, the cost is $1700. Will have confirmation either way tomotrow. Order definitely finalized tomorrow.
