Default It's tricky

Here's a description of one man's method on an A4 (which is almost identical to my 99 A6), or you can get a special tool but I'm not sure where.

https://www.audiworld.com/tech/wheel.html</a

Default The special tool ...

... that allows you to screw the piston back in.

I haven't tried this specific tool, but I saw it recommended in the A4 forum.

HarborFreight brake tool

Default You screw it back in. Get a special tool at the local auto store. It will be a cube with six

sets of "****" on it for different cars. The cube has 3/8" ratchet squares in it. I think they are 3/8", maybe 1/2". There will be one side with 4 **** in a square. The tool costs about $6?? Grind off two diagonally oppossed ****...

After

Sometimes it helps to screw the pistion out a litle and then start screwing it in. Remember to apply some pressure when screwing in the cylinder too. The **** fit in the two slots shown in the piston below.

Default Here, I stole Andrew's (IqDOU?) picture of his tool with ground off ****.

By the way, the official Audi tool costs...about $60 as I recall. The Audi tool looks nice.

Default Nice looking. I'd like to see it. Screwing in those pistons is not easy. That T bar could either be

bigger or there is some mechanical advantage I'm not seeing.

A good tool would be nice. With two people (one to hold the brake assembly and cube tool, another to run the ratchet with both hands, it wasn't too bad. Alone it would be a PIA.

No grinding required. This was from Autozone and fits on a 3/8" extension.
