An A6 Avant with manual transmission is out of the question?

Yes, 2002 A4 Avant can be had with manual . . .
but I'm not crazy about the new A4 chassis, and I want to stay away from 1st year models. I *really* can't stand the fake chrome in the instrument cluster and everywhere else . . .
Being 6'3"+ I thought I would treat myself to a roomier car. But when you look at the measurements, all the extra room of the A6 seems to be in the back. The front seat head/legroom is almost identical. Isn't that so?
I'd hate to switch brands after 20+ years . . . I don't want an automatic . . . BMW is RWD . . . Acura still gives me the ******* . . . Volvo? aaaah . . . I'm confused :-)
